Tonight at 8 p.m. the St. Albert Merchants play the Edmonton Mustangs at Bill Hunter Arena in the Capital Junior B Hockey League.

The Merchants (6-4-2) trail the fourth-place Mustangs (7-6-1) by four points in the west division.

The Merchants are coming off their second loss in a row after five straight wins, 7-5 to the Sherwood Park Knights in a chippy affair last weekend in St. Albert.

The Knights scored three times in the opening 8:11 minutes and led 4-1 after the first period and 6-4 after two periods.

Jamie Umbach, captain Brady Reid, Ryan Harrison, Dan Rombough and Mike Roeleveld scored for the Merchants. Casey Reid added two assists.

Justin Pawlenchuk (4-3, 3.89 GAA) and Max Cathcart (2-3, 3.29 GAA) split time in net.

Sunday the Merchants visit the rival Morinville Jets (10-4) at 6:45 p.m. at the Ray McDonald Sports Centre.

The Jets are undefeated in three games going into Friday’s contest against the Chiefs (6-6) in Beaumont at 8:30 p.m.

The St. Albert Sabres skate tonight against the Maple Leafs in the Alberta Major Bantam Hockey League.

Faceoff is 8:30 p.m. at Castledowns Arena.

In the nitro north division, the Maple Leafs (7-2-1) are second and the Sabres (2-9-1) are in last place.

Meanwhile, forward Zach Webb was named the Sabres’ top player for September and October. He leads the team in points with 13 and is second in goals with four.
