Today – Saturday, Nov. 3 – at 10 a.m. the St. Albert Riders and St. Albert Colts battle for the Tier 4 peewee championship in the Capital District Minor Football Association.
Admission is $5 at Johnny Bright Park.
In the semifinals in St. Albert, the Riders (3-5) silenced the Fort Saskatchewan Thunder (1-7) 8-0 and the Colts (2-6) downed the Fort McMurray Ravens (2-6) 24-8.
In the Tier 3/4 division season-opener the Riders blanked the Colts 6-0.
The St. Albert 49ers and Fort Saskatchewan Lightning huddle up today in the Tier 3 bantam final in the Capital District Minor Football Association.
Kickoff is 12:30 p.m. at Johnny Bright Park. Admission is $5.
The winner plays the Wheatland champion in the north final next Saturday for a berth in the Nov. 17 provincial final.
In the semifinals at Clarke Park, the 49ers (6-1) rallied from a 14-point second half deficit to defeat the Edmonton Mustangs (4-2-1) 21-14 and the Thunder (6-1) silenced the St. Albert Fury (3-4) 34-0.
In league play, with first place on the line, the Thunder stunned the 49ers 36-23 Oct. 6 at St. Albert.
The metro Edmonton high school volleyball playoffs swing into action Monday in the varsity men’s and women’s conferences.
In the premier women’s quarter-finals, the St. Albert Skyhawks (8-0) host the Salisbury Sabres (1-7) at 6:15 p.m. at the SkyDome.
The Skyhawks defeated Salisbury 3-1 in Sherwood Park to end the regular season.
The Skyhawks clinched first place this week with a 27-25, 23-25, 25-20, 25-22 win over the Bev Facey Falcons (7-1) in Sherwood Park.
Facey, ranked fifth provincially in 4A, entertain the two-time defending premier champion Paul Kane Blues (2-6) at 6:15 p.m.
In the premier men’s quarter-finals, Paul Kane (5-4) hosts the Sturgeon Spirits (5-4) and the Bellerose Bulldogs (3-6) visit Facey (9-0), tied for sixth in the 4A rankings.
Paul Kane’s last match was the 3-2 win over Sturgeon in St. Albert.
In the city men’s quarter-finals, the Skyhawks (10-1) play the Austin O’Brien Crusaders (3-7) or Parkland Immanuel (3-7) at 4:45 p.m. at the SkyDome.
This week in Leduc the Skyhawks suffered their first loss in league play, 17-25, 21-25, 28-26, 7-15 against the Tigers (9-2).
In the city women’s semifinals, the Bellerose Bulldogs (6-2) have a home date with the Leduc Tigers (5-3) at 4:45 p.m.
In the crossover playoff round Bellerose, the top pool B team, posted a 3-1 victory over the winless Fort Saskatchewan Sting in St. Albert.
The premier and city semifinals are Wednesday. The finals are Friday and Saturday at Bev Facey High School.
