The playoffs are underway today at the 18th annual Lions Western Canadian Challenge high school volleyball tournament in St. Albert and Morinville.

Bellerose Composite High School hosts the women’s semifinals at 5:30 p.m., the bronze final at 7 p.m. and the gold-medal match at 8 p.m.
Morinville Community High School is the venue for the men’s semifinals at 5:30 p.m., the bronze final at 7 p.m. and the gold-medal match at 8 p.m.
The consolation finals start at 7 p.m. at St. Albert Catholic High School for the women and Georges H. Primeau School in Morinville for the men.
The St. Albert Raiders wrap up their four-game homestand this weekend at Akinsdale Arena.
Tonight at 8 p.m. the Raiders (3-1-2) host the Southeast Tigers (1-4-1) of Medicine Hat and Sunday they play the Calgary Northstars (1-3-2) at 1:30 p.m.
The 2012 midget AAA provincial finalists are 1-1-1 on home ice.
The top-scoring Raiders are Sebastian Auray and Kyler Hehn with four goals and eight points apiece.
Netminder Mitch Martell (2-0-1) is the league leader in shutouts with two and is second in goals-against average at 1.33.
The St. Albert Sabres skate into today’s contest against the Canadian Athletic Club winless in five games in the Alberta Major Bantam Hockey League.
Faceoff is 3:45 p.m. at Akinsdale Arena.
The CAC (2-5) ranks fourth and the Sabres (1-6) are fifth in the nitro north division.
Zach Webb leads the Sabres in scoring with three goals and seven points.
The next game for the St. Albert Flyers in the Alberta Minor Midget AAA Hockey League is tonight against the Canadian Athletic Club.
Puck drop is 7:30 p.m. at Callingwood Arena.
The Flyers (3-0-1) and CAC (2-0-1) are among the top teams in the midget 15 north division.
Last weekend the Flyers played the Rage (1-2-1) twice in Lloydminster. The first match was a scoreless tie. Shots were 35-24 for the Rage. In net for the Flyers was Pat Dea. In the second game, Ethan Lazaro’s second goal was the winner in the 4-3 decision. Cam Mazur and Kieran Arcand also scored and Tristen Gavin and Brendan Kallis had two assists apiece. Dea (2-0-1, 1.33 GAA) stopped a game-high 30 shots.
Kallis and Lazaro share the team lead in points with five and Mazur is the top goal scorer with three.
The home opener for the Flyers is next Saturday against the Leduc Oil Kings (1-3) at 8 p.m. at Akinsdale Arena.
