The varsity men’s and women’s volleyball teams at St. Albert Catholic High School put their undefeated metro Edmonton records on the line today at the SkyDome.
At 4:45 p.m. the lady Skyhawks spike the ball against the Holy Trinity Trojans. Both premier conference teams are 2-0 in league play.
In the men’s city conference, the Skyhawks and Archbishop MacDonald Marauders hook up at 6:15 p.m. The Skyhawks are 4-0 and the Marauders are 3-1.
The St. Albert High Skyhawks tackle the Ardrossan Bisons in metro Edmonton high school football Thursday.
Kickoff is 5 p.m. at Riel Recreation Park. Admission is $5.
In the Football Alberta rankings, the Skyhawks are eighth in Tier III and Ardrossan (3-2) is No. 1 in Tier IV.
A win would help the Skyhawks (4-2), last year’s Tier III north finalists, keep pace with the Bellerose Bulldogs (4-1) in the race for second place in the Carr conference.
In the latest metro stats, quarterback Keith Zyla ranks fifth in rushing with 331 yards on 19 carries.
The Grade 11 Skyhawk is also 28-for-51 passing for 580 yards and seven touchdowns.
Rocky Borrelli is second in receiving yards with 246 on 13 catches and Brendan Thera-Plamondon is fourth at 227 yards on 11 catches. Matti Thurlin is sixth with 184 yards on eight catches.
Thurlin is also ninth in rushing with 204 yards on 24 carries and Thera-Plamondon is 10th with 171 yards on 26 carries.
Thera-Plamondon’s nine TDs ranks fourth in the league.
Carter Ganton is the team leader in tackles with 28, followed by Jack Zubick’s 23 and Zyla’s 21.
Thursday the St. Albert Sabres host the SSAC Southgate Lions in the Alberta Major Bantam Hockey League.
Puck drop is 7 p.m. at Akinsdale Arena.
The Lions, the defending provincial champions, are first at 4-0-1 in the nitro north division and the Sabres share fourth spot at 1-4.
The Sabres are coming off their third loss in a row, 3-2 to the Maple Leafs (3-1) Saturday at Castledowns Arena. Jake Warawa and Jaedon Leslie scored in the middle period and netminder Matt Murray stopped a game-high 31 shots.
The St. Albert Slash are back on the ice Friday night after last weekend’s bye in the Alberta Major Midget Female Hockey League.
The Slash (3-2-1) play the Spruce Grove Saints (4-3) at 6:30 p.m. at the Tri-Leisure Centre.
Saturday the Slash host the Calgary Bruins (2-1-4) at 5:45 p.m. at Northstar Hyundai Arena.
Offensively the Slash are led by Kennedy Newton’s four goals and Charity Price’s eight points after six games.
