The juniors were 26-8-3 overall and the belles were 26-10-1 before pool play kicked off Monday.

This is the second year for the junior and belle AA programs in the St. Albert Ringette Association and last year at nationals in Regina the juniors finished 13th and the belles placed 14th.

This year at the Ringette Alberta championships in St. Albert the juniors finished fifth at 2-2 and the belles were 4-1 as bronze medallists. A 2-1 loss by the belles in a 10-minute mini-game tiebreaker was the difference between going for gold or bronze.

Fifty-six players will face-off in the fight against lung cancer at the third annual Donnie MAC Cup on April 11 from 2 to 5 p.m. at the Akinsdale and Kinex arenas.

The majority of the players are St. Albert Minor Hockey Association alumni on Team MAC Insurance, Team MACSON, Team Remax Jay Herrick/Standard General and Team MAC Registries.

The fundraiser honours the memory of Don MacMillan of St. Albert who died of lung cancer on March 19, 2011 at age 61.

The Donnie MAC Cup has raised almost $30,000 since its inception.

Donations can be made to [email protected]. They can also be dropped off at the event or at MAC Insurance at No. 8, 44 St. Thomas Street in St. Albert and MAC Registries at 14228 Stony Plain Road.

Online donations are also accepted through the Donnie MAC Cup link at www.lungcancercanada.ca.

Raffle tickets can be purchased at the event to win multiple items donated.

Balloon twisters and face painters will also be in attendance.

For more information, contact Derek MacMillan at 780-458-1441.
