The St. Albert Storm make their midget spring league season debut today in the Capital District Minor Football Association.
The division one kick-off is 5:30 p.m. against the Lloydminster Red Dogs at Fuhr Sports Park in Spruce Grove.
The Storm tackle the Millwoods Grizzlies Wednesday at 6:30 p.m. in Spruce Grove.
The first home game is April 11 versus the Battle River Shock at 7 p.m. at Riel Recreation Park.

The rematch of last year's Fountain Tire Cup final between the St. Albert Crusaders and Peace River Royals in the Northern Alberta Midget AA Hockey League started Friday in Peace River.

The score from the best-of-five series opener was unavailable at press time.

The Royals host game two today at 5 p.m. and game three Sunday at noon.

If necessary, the series resumes next weekend at Akinsdale Arena. Game four is 7 p.m. Saturday and game five is 1 p.m. Sunday.

Last year, the Crusaders finished 50-10-6 overall after winning game five 8-2 in Peace River.

The Crusaders skated into this year's final at 40-14-4 after knocking off SSAC Don Wheaton in the deciding game in the best-of-three league semifinal. It was the fourth elimination playoff game the Crusaders won in two consecutive series.

In league play, the Royals (25-7) and Crusaders (22-6-4) finished first in their respective divisions and in January it was 6-0 for Peace River against the defending champions in St. Albert.

The deadline to register online for the rebranded St. Albert Road Race, formerly the St. Albert 10-Mile Road Race, is April 16 through www.zone4.ca.

Highlighting the April 19 competition is the 30th annual 10-miler. The inaugural male and female winners in 1986 were Dennis Colburn, a five-time champion, at 54 minutes and 12 seconds and Anne Galloway at 58:54.

Last year's champion was Francois Leboeuf at 53:44 and the fastest female was Emily Setlack at 59:50.

The course record of 50:46 was set by Matt Norminton in 2007 and Aster Demissie established the female record of 54:36 in 2005.

This year's event includes the debut of the 10-kilometre race and the five-km run replaces the six-km run held the last two years.

As of Wednesday, 171 runners had registered online for the road race, including 148 10-milers.

The road race is hosted by the St. Albert Road Runners and Triathlon Club.
