St. Albert is double trouble tonight in the Edmonton Rugby Union junior boys’ finals at Ellerslie Rugby Park.
Kickoff is 7 p.m. against the Nor’Westers in U17 and Clansmen B in U19.
The winners scrum down against the Calgary Hornets in Saturday’s provincial finals at Calgary Rugby Park.
Last week in semifinal action St. Albert edged the Clansmen by one point in U17 and the U19s battled back from a fourth quarter deficit to defeat the Druids by 14.
In the U17 table the Nor’Westers (4-2) and St. Albert (3-3) finished first and second, respectively. The teams split the season series by scores of 16-15 for St. Albert and 17-14 for the Nor’Westers.
St. Albert (4-0-1) and Clan (4-1) were the top U19 teams in league play. St. Albert knocked off the Clan 34-17 and against the third-place Clansmen A (2-2-1) settled for a 22-all draw.
The Capital District Minor Football Association has scheduled four jamborees over an eight-day period at Riel Recreation Park.
The peewees huddle up tonight and the bantams are in action Thursday from 6 to 9 p.m. at the turf field. Representing the St. Albert Minor Football Association in the four-team mini-games are the peewee Riders and bantam 49ers.
Saturday’s atom jamboree goes from 10 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. and the St. Albert Vikings are among eight teams participating.
The peewees are back on the field Wednesday from 6 to 9 p.m. and the seven-team draw features the St. Albert Colts.
The CDMFA jamborees kicked off last weekend to determine the Tier I and II division teams in league play.
There is no kicking or special teams in the controlled scrimmages. Each game is approximately 45 minutes in length. Wednesday’s games are 30 minutes.
The St. Albert BMX Association cranks it up this weekend with a double race extravaganza at Riel Recreation Park.
The provincial 7 and 8 series races and the Canada Cup 3 and 4 round will make tracks on St. Albert’s state of the art BMX track, which boasts of a supercross-style start hill.
Race times are 11 a.m. Saturday and 10 a.m. Sunday.
Provincial classes are U9, cruiser, 10 to 13, 14-plus and junior/elite.
The Canada Cup runs on the same days as provincials and is open to junior and elite men and women and riders aged 14 to 16 in the junior development class.
The Canada Cup consists of three weekends of racing for a total of five events. The series began in Quebec in July and ends in Abbotsford, B.C. in September.
