Next week the St. Albert Minor Baseball Association is hosting two exhibition games in the IBAF Women’s Baseball World Cup at Legion Memorial Park.
The United States plays Australia on Tuesday and Canada on Wednesday. Game times are 7 p.m.
Canada is practicing at Legion park in preparation for the eight-team World Cup, starting Friday at Telus Field and John Fry Park.
The Canadian roster features four Alberta players, including former St. Albert rugby player Tara Sliwkanich of Fort Saskatchewan.
Online registrations for the St. Albert Triathlon end Tuesday.
As of Thursday, 162 competitors had signed up for the Aug. 12 triathlon on www2.eventsonline.ca.
The triathlon features a sprint distance (750-metre swim, 20-kilometre bike and five-km run), try-a-tri (250m swim, 10-km bike and 2.5-km run) and the sprint relay race.
Last year’s finishers included 132 in the sprint distance, 26 in the try-a-tri and seven teams in the sprint relay.
The triathlon starts at 7 a.m. at Fountain Park Recreation Centre and the awards ceremony begins at 11 a.m. at the finish line. Medals will be awarded to the top three men and top three women overall, as well the top three competitors in the six men’s and women’s age categories, try-a-tri male, try-a-tri female and sprint relay race.
Max King of Sherwood Park was the 2011 race winner in one hour, one minute and 28 seconds.
The fastest St. Albert triathlete was Ryan Kohlenberg. The 2010 winner was clocked at 1:02:22.
Wietske Eikelenboom of St. Albert was the runaway female winner last year at 1:10:29 for 12th place overall.
The annual St. Albert event is sanctioned by Triathlon Alberta and is hosted by the St. Albert Roadrunners and Triathlon Club.

The best-of-five senior B final between the St. Albert Miners and Rockyview Knights in the Rocky Mountain Lacrosse League hits the floor next weekend in Calgary.
Dates and times for games one and two were unavailable at press time.
Games three and four will be played Aug. 17-18 at Northstar Hyundai Arena.
Game five, if needed, will be held in Calgary at a date to be announced.
The winner will represent Alberta at the President’s Cup national championship, Aug. 27 to Sept. 2 in Spruce Grove.
The last two years at nationals the Miners finished 2-4 as the provincial reps.
In league play this year the Knights (13-3) finished first and the Miners (9-6-1) placed third. The Knights defeated the two-time defending provincial champions 11-7 in St. Albert and 9-7 in Calgary.
