The heat will be on St. Albert’s first 15 when they take on the Druids at Leading Edge Physiotherapy Field at the St. Albert Rugby Football Club (SARFC) today. Game time is 4 p.m. The temperature is expected to hit 31 C.

The two teams have met only once so far this season, with the Druids squeaking out a 9-6 win on May 12. The first squad is coming off an 18-16 fight-filled loss to the Clan last Thursday.

The second division squad, coming off a 37-31 win over the Clan last weekend, will also be in action Saturday afternoon against the NorWesters. The two teams have already met once, in which the NorWesters thumped St. Albert 29-12.

The second division game goes at 2:15 p.m. also at Leading Edge field.

Sherwood Park Green and Foothills Black of Okotoks will be in St. Albert Saturday to take on the bantam AAA Cardinals at Legion Memorial Ball Park.

First up is Sherwood Park, who the Red Birds beat 14-10 Tuesday at Legion. They’ll take to the field against the Cardinals at 10 a.m. on the bantam diamond. The game against Foothills Black will start at 4 p.m.

The Black and Cardinals have faced one another only twice this year, both times on June 2, with Foothills scoring 5-1 and 10-8 wins.

St. Albert leads the league at 14-5 with Foothills Black in third at 12-2, having played five fewer games. Sherwood Park Green has not recorded a single win this year.

The Sr. B Miners could tie up the standings at second place with a win in their final game of the regular season against the last-place Edmonton Outlaws this afternoon at Northstar Hyundai Arena at Servus Credit Union Place. The game starts at 2 p.m.

For the Miners to move up the Slash would have to have dropped last night’s games to the Outlaws. The score was not available at press time.

The Miners are two points back of the Slash. They are third in the standings, as well as in goals for-against with 17.

St. Albert’s Heavenly Rollers Rookies will invite the Chinook City Kill Jills from Calgary into Servus Credit Union Place tonight for some blocking and jamming action. The bout starts at 7 p.m.

The bout will feature the first time the Heavenly Rollers Rookies have taken to the track in front of the home crowd. Any women over the age of 18 can give roller derby a try at any point in the season, with the team renting out the necessary protective equipment.

The St. Albert Tigers will try to stretch one victory into a two-win streak on Tuesday when they take the Legion field against the Red Deer Riggers. First pitch goes at 7:30 p.m.

The Tigers recorded only their second win of the season Tuesday night against the Red Deer Stags with a dominating 9-1 win that saw pitcher Derek Dallorto go the whole nine innings.

The Riggers are in third place with 12 points, eight ahead of both the Tigers and the Stags. Only the top four teams make the playoffs.
