Revenge will be on the minds of St. Albert’s second division rugby team this afternoon as they welcome the Clansmen to the St. Albert Rugby Football Club (SARFC), two days after a fight-filled match between the premier teams that saw five red cards handed out, one St. Albert player taken away by ambulance and the Clan win on a last-minute penalty kick.
The match starts at 4 p.m. at Leading Edge Fields. St. Albert currently sits in last place in the second division standings while the Clan are in second.
The teams have played one another only once so far this season, with the Clan coming away with a close 13-12 victory.
The bantam AAA Cardinals will play host to Fort McMurray this weekend in a three-game home stand at Legion Memorial park.
Starting Saturday, the two teams will play at noon and then again at 3 p.m. On Sunday both teams will take the mound at 10 a.m.
Following the second of the double-header match on Saturday, the Senior Cardinals will take to the Legion diamonds at 6:45 to take on the Edmonton Expos.
The Senior Cardinals are first in their league with nine wins and one loss, with their only loss coming at home. The Edmonton Expos, meanwhile, occupy the basement of the league at 1-6, 6.5 games back of the Cardinals.
The Jr. A Miners will try to start their climb out of the basement of their Rocky Mountain Lacrosse League division this weekend with two games coming up.
Three points back of the Eclipse for third place in the four-team division, the Miners will first take on the Mounties at Northstar Hyundai Arena at Service Credit Union Place on Saturday night at 6 p.m. The Mounties are in second place in the league, 14 points ahead of the Miners.
Then on Sunday, also at Northstar Hyundai Arena, the Miners return to the floor to battle the Okotoks Jr. Raiders, the league leaders. That game goes at 2 p.m.
The St. Albert midget A boys’ lacrosse team are the toast of the league as they claimed the Greater Edmonton Lacrosse Council title on July 3 with a 9-3 win over the Sherwood Park Titans.
In the game, at Bill Hunter Arena, Keaton Paré provided the bulk of the offence, netting a hat trick while Adam Gallagher and Matthew Meek-White each scored twice. This is the first city title for the midget A Rams in nine years.
The Rams now head to provincials this weekend in Red Deer.
