Four matches in two days at the Leading Edge Fields for St. Albert’s rugby teams kicks off tonight at 7 p.m.

The third division men (3-1) host the Leduc Crude (2-4) and the women’s team (1-7) entertains the Pirates (3-5).

Thursday at 7 p.m. the second division men (2-4) tackle the Leduc Crude (3-3) and the premier men (3-2) battle the Strathcona Druids (4-1).

The St. Albert Cardinals are up to bat tonight against Sherwood Park Gold in the Norwest Midget AAA Baseball League.

The first pitch is 7 p.m. at Legion Memorial Park.

The Gold (14-4) and Cardinals (10-11) are ranked second and seventh, respectively, in the division.

The Cardinals are 5-5 in their last 10 games after beating last-place SEEBA 2 (2-16) 9-3 and 15-8 last week in St. Albert.

Thursday at 7:30 p.m. the St. Albert Tigers and the Red Deer Riggers play ball at Legion Memorial Park.

The last-place Tigers (1-5) are winless in four games and the Riggers (4-2) are third in the five-team standings.

The top four teams qualify for the Baseball Alberta senior AAA provincials in August.

St. Albert celebrates its first longboard competition on Canada Day.

The event starts at 12 p.m. at Kingswood Park for the downhill and push racers and ends at 4 p.m.

Age categories are juniors (six to nine) and beginner, intermediate and advanced (21 and under).

No experience is required. Full-face helmets and slide gloves are mandatory.

The push race course is a four-kilometre paved trail.

The downhill course features head-to-head racing on one of the fastest sections of Woodlands Road.

The finish line is Festival Village at Kingswood Park.

The early registration deadline has been extended to Friday. The fee is $12 for one race or $20 for two races. The fees then increase to $22 for one race and $40 for two races.

Registration forms are available at local junior high and high schools, Community and Protective Services at St. Albert Place and the City of St. Albert website.

The St. Albert Miners travel to Calgary this weekend for junior A and senior B games at Stu Peppard Arena in the Rocky Mountain Lacrosse League.

Saturday the junior A Miners (3-7) play the Calgary Mountaineers (6-4-1) at 6:30 p.m. and the Okotoks Raiders (8-1) Sunday at 1:30 p.m.

The senior B Miners (7-4) run the floor Saturday against the Calgary Mountaineers (0-7) at 9 p.m. and Sunday against the Rockyview Knights (7-1) at 4 p.m.
