Tonight at 8 p.m. the St. Albert Miners host the Spruce Grove Slash at Northstar Hyundai Arena in a Rocky Mountain Lacrosse League rematch. Last week the Slash (2-1) defeated the two-time defending senior B champions 11-9 at Grant Fuhr Arena.

Last week the Slash (2-1) defeated the two-time defending senior B champions 11-9 at Grant Fuhr Arena. Jordan Cornfield fired four goals and added two assists against the Slash, the host team for the 2012 Presidents’ Cup national championship.

Sunday in St. Albert, the Miners (2-2) edged the Edmonton Outlaws 11-10 in overtime. The sixth goal of the game by Richard Barnes was the winner on a penalty shot after the Outlaws (1-2) were assessed a ‘too many men on defence’ infraction early in sudden death.

The Miners trailed 4-3 after the first period and 9-8 entering the third.

Captain Nate Schmidt notched one goal and four assists and Thomas Sterparn, Chris Schmidt, Calvin Roberts and Derek Draper had singles. In net was Dave Marrese.

The St. Albert Skyhawks and Bellerose Bulldogs earned first-round playoff byes in metro Edmonton high school soccer with top pool B finishes in the women’s city conference.

In Thursday’s quarter-finals the Skyhawks (3-0) play the Oscar Romero Ravens (1-3) or Ardrossan Bisons (2-1) and the Bulldogs (2-1-1) face the Holy Trinity Trojans (1-0-3). Kickoff times are 4:15 p.m. at Riel Park.

The semifinals are Monday and the final is Tuesday at 4 p.m. at Victoria Soccer Club.

The Bellerose Bulldogs wrap up their football spring camp Friday with the inaugural Dawg Bowl at 5:30 p.m. at the Riel Park turf field.

The event is designed to give game experience to all the rookie and inexperienced Bulldogs. Veterans will be used sparingly.

Senior team players Ben Graunke and Ryan Shorten will serve as captains for Team Cardinal and Team White, but will not play.

The junior coaching staff will run both teams so the senior coaches can evaluate the players.

Fat Franks will also be on location at 5 p.m.

Friday the St. Albert Tigers host the Fort Saskatchewan A’s in the Sunburst Baseball League.

Game time is 8 p.m. at Legion Memorial Park.

Last week the Tigers lost 11-3 to the Riggers in Red Deer and beat the Parkland White Sox 10-8 in Spruce Grove to start league play.

Tuesday the Tigers play the Red Deer Stags at 7:30 p.m. at Legion park.

Meanwhile, the 29th annual Tigers Baseball Association tournament goes June 8 to 10, and will be held in conjunction with the St. Albert Minor Baseball Association’s 40th anniversary celebration weekend.

The tournament schedule had not been finalized at press time.
