The St. Albert Rugby Football Club’s home opener Thursday is the women’s match in the Edmonton Rugby Union spring league fixtures.
Game time is 7 p.m. between St. Albert and Leduc Crude/West.
Last Saturday the Strathcona Druids Red overpowered St. Albert 70-5 at Lynn Davis Park. It was 10-0 Druids when Marcia Davis scored in the 20th minute.
St. Albert also lost its season debut 48-3 to the Rockers.
The round robin tournament determines the teams for the Alberta premier division and the ERU second division.
The St. Albert Soccer Association’s Victoria Day Classic tournament kicks off Friday at 6:30 p.m.
Thirty teams are entered in the boys’ U10, U12 Tier I and II, U14 Tier I and II and U16 Tier III divisions and 38 teams in the girls’ U12 Tier I and II, U14 Tier I and II, U16 Tier II and U18 Tier II divisions.
Out-of-province teams hail from Saskatoon, Prince Albert, Regina and Whitehorse.
St. Albert is represented by nine boys’ teams and six girls’ teams.
Matches are scheduled for Forest Park, Hodgson Field, the SASA fields at Riel Park and the turf field at Riel Recreation Park.
The medal finals are Monday.
Players from Edmonton FC in the North American Soccer League will also be available for autographs Saturday and Sunday.

This year SASA decided to go with a joint boys’ and girls’ tournament after hosting the girls during the May long weekend for 27 years and the boys during the Canada Day long weekend for 39 years. A four-day scouting camp in Edmonton for club-level players reduced the number of teams in the boys’ tournament.
The 2011 tournaments featured 30 girls’ teams and 22 boys’ teams.
The St. Albert Minor Baseball Association’s annual Early Bird tournament is up to bat this weekend at the Legion and Meadowview diamonds.
The 40-team, 78-game schedule starts Friday at 6:30 p.m. and ends with Monday’s finals in midget AA, bantam AAA and AA, peewee AAA and AA and mosquito AA. The St. Albert Cardinals are competing in every division.

Five Grade 12 players from St. Albert will huddle up for the north team at the 23rd annual Senior Bowl High School Football All-Star Game.
Kickoff is 12 p.m. at Foote Field.
Linebacker Landon Wenger of the St. Albert High Skyhawks, defensive backs Brandon Jennings and Nathan Mitchell of the Paul Kane Blues and Andre Leduc of the Skyhawks and kicker Ideen Samadi of the Blues made the north roster.
