The Spruce Grove Slash are hosting the 2012 nationals.

Sunday’s open house at the St. Albert Tennis Club goes from 1 to 4 p.m. at the Mission Avenue courts.

On Wednesday the St. Albert Storm will huddle up against the Edmonton Chargers in the Tier II final in the Capital District Minor Football Association’s midget spring league.

Kickoff is 6:30 p.m. at the Riel Park turf field.

The Storm and Chargers were to play Friday in St. Albert in the last league game before the playoffs, but it was cancelled because both teams were going to meet in the Tier II final. There were also scheduling conflicts with high school spring camps, the zone bantam tryouts for the Alberta Summer Games and the U18 Team Alberta tryouts.

The top two teams in the Tier I and II division qualified for the Tier I final and the next two teams compete for Tier II honours.

The Storm are 1-4 going into the final and their only win was 35-7 against the Chargers.

The Storm’s last game was Tuesday’s 39-7 loss to the Edmonton Mustangs at Clarke Park. The Mustangs led 33-0 at halftime.

Brendon Thera-Plamondon was 5-for-10 passing for 71 yards and one touchdown. He was also intercepted once.

Rocky Borrelli caught three passes for 55 yards and scored one TD.

Ryan Shorten led the defence with eight tackles.
