Metro Edmonton high school rugby scrums down next week for both women and men.

On Tuesday in the premier women’s conference, Paul Kane Blues tackle Bev Facey Falcons at Lynn Davies Rugby Park, and Sturgeon Spirits play O’Leary Spartans at the Clansmen Rugby Club.

In the city conference pool B fixtures, Bellerose Bulldogs battle Fort Saskatchewan Sting and St. Albert Skyhawks line up against St. Francis Xavier Rams at St. Albert Rugby Football Club.

On Wednesday in pool B in the premier men’s conference, Paul Kane and Sturgeon hook up in St. Albert and Bellerose tangles with the Rams at the Clansmen. In the city conference, the Skyhawks have an exhibition match against the Archbishop Jordan Scots in St. Albert.

Kick-off times are 4:45 p.m.

Sturgeon is the defending men’s champion and the lady Spirits have won the premier title the last three years.

Last year at the Tier I (4A schools) provincials the lady Spirits won silver and the Sturgeon men took home bronze.

The inaugural Gareth Jones high school rugby tournament kicks off next Saturday at the St. Albert Rugby Football Club.

The men’s and women’s teams from Bellerose, Paul Kane and St. Albert High will participate. Matches are 17-minute halves.

The tournament is named in honour of the first president of the St. Albert rugby club.

Thursday is the deadline to register for the second annual RunWild Leading Edge Marathon on May 6.

Visit www.RunWild.ca or any Running Room location to register for the 42-kilometre marathon, 21.1-km half marathon walk/run, 10-km walk/run, five-km walk/run and the WildOnes Marafun for kids.

The RunWild event starts at 7 a.m. in front of St. Albert Place with the marathon race, followed by the half marathon at 7:30 a.m., 10 km at 7:45 a.m. and five km at 8 a.m. The WildOnes Marafun goes 11:30 a.m. from the airplane display on Taché Street.

Registrations are being accepted for the third annual Skyhawk Basketball & Volleyball Combo Camp, Aug. 20-23 at St. Albert Catholic high school.

The camp is open to girls and boys in junior high and Grade 10 in preparation for school volleyball and basketball club team tryouts. Instructors are teachers who are top-level coaches and former players, plus Canadian Interuniversity Sport and Alberta Colleges Athletic Conference players and alumni.

Volleyball runs from 9:30 a.m. to noon and basketball goes from 12:45 to 3:15 p.m.

The fee is $95 for one session or $175 for both.
