The round robin draw in the Ringette Alberta U14 tween B championship wraps up today for the St. Albert Xtreme at Servus Credit Union Place. The host team plays Fort McMurray at 11:15 a.m. and the Airdrie Sting at 3:15 p.m. at Mark Messier Arena.

The eight team tournament started Friday and the score between the Xtreme and Calgary East Fusion was unavailable at press time.

In Sunday’s playoffs the top two teams in both pools meet in the 8 a.m. semifinals at the Troy Murray and Performance arenas. The third-place game is 12:15 p.m. and the final is 2 p.m. at Troy Murray.

The Hockey Alberta championships are underway for three St. Albert teams.

The Blues, last year’s provincial silver medallists, are skating in the midget AA major tournament in Wainwright.

The Silvertips are competing for medals in the bantam A female tournament in Sherwood Park.

The Sabres are in Lethbridge for the peewee AA major tournament.

The St. Albert Slash needed a win Friday to keep their season alive in the Alberta Major Midget Female Hockey League playoffs.

The score between the Slash and the defending champion Edmonton Thunder in game three in the best-of-five north division final was unavailable at press time.

Last weekend the 2011 Esso Cup national silver medallists defeated the Slash 5-2 in St. Albert and 2-1 in Edmonton for a 2-0 series lead.

If needed, game four goes today at 2:15 p.m. at Performance Arena and game five is Sunday at 7:30 p.m. at Millwoods Arena.

This is the third year in a row the Slash and Thunder clashed in the north final. The Thunder swept the 2010 series and last year beat the Slash in four games.

The regular season in metro Edmonton high school badminton swings into action next week.

Monday in pool B the St. Albert Skyhawks host the Paul Kane Blues and the Bellerose Bulldogs visit the Sturgeon Spirits at 4 p.m.

Tuesday the Blues play John Paul II Patriots of Fort Saskatchewan and the St. Francis Xavier Rams at Paul Kane. The Skyhawks attack the net against the Fort Saskatchewan Sting and Sturgeon at Namao. Start times are 4 p.m.

Thursday the Bulldogs entertain the Louis St. Laurent Barons and the Oscar Romero Ravens at 4 p.m.

In the April 16 conference playoffs the top two finishers in pools A and B challenge for premier honours and the next two teams in both pools compete for the city title.

Last year in the city final Sturgeon beat the Skyhawks 4-1 in match play.
