Game four in the best-of-seven Capital Junior B Hockey League semifinal between the Morinville Jets, who lead the series 2-1, and Edmonton Royals goes tonight at 8 p.m. at Bill Hunter Arena.
On Friday the Jets host game five at 8 p.m. at the Bill McDonald Sports Centre.
If needed, game six is Sunday at 8 p.m. at Bill Hunter and game seven is March 21 at 8:30 p.m. in Morinville.
Last Wednesday in the series opener, Dalen Paul scored with 3:23 remaining in the 10-minute overtime period to give the Jets a 2-1 victory in Morinville.
The Royals rebounded Friday in game two with five unanswered goals in the last two periods to win 5-2 in Edmonton.
The Jets regained the series lead in Sunday’s 4-2 decision in Morinville.
In league play the Jets (24-11-3) tied the Beverly Warriors for the west division pennant and the Royals (26-10-2) placed fourth in the east division.
The series winner will play the Spruce Grove Regals (24-12-2) or Beaumont Chiefs (27-10-1) in the best-of-five final. The semifinal winners automatically advance to provincials.
The Jets have never won a league championship or competed at provincials.
The North Cup playoff tournament in the Alberta Minor Midget AAA Hockey League starts Thursday for the St. Albert Flyers at Terwillegar Arena.
In the pool B round-robin draw the second-place Flyers (25-7-6) play the seventh-place KC Centennials (15-15-8) at 5:30 p.m.
Friday the Flyers skate at 10:15 a.m. against the fifth-place Spruce Grove Saints (20-12-6) and 5:45 p.m. against the third-place Leduc Oil Kings (23-11-4).
The playoff round will be staged at Bill Hunter Arena. The top two teams in the A and B pools advance into Saturday’s semifinals at 10:15 a.m. and 12:45 p.m. The third-place game is Saturday at 8:15 p.m. and the final is Sunday at noon.
The March 21-25 provincial championship is also a tournament format involving the two finalists and the third place winners from the north and south conferences.
The St. Albert Xtreme are the host team for the U14 tween B ringette provincial championship this weekend at Servus Credit Union Place.
Eight teams are entered. Friday’s opening ceremonies start at 4:30 p.m. at Mark Messier Arena.
The Xtreme have round-robin games scheduled at Mark Messier on Friday at 6 p.m. against the Calgary East Fusion and on Saturday at 11:15 a.m. against Fort McMurray and 3:15 p.m. against the Airdrie Sting.
The playoff round is Sunday. The semifinals are 8 a.m. at the Troy Murray and Performance arenas. The third-place game is 12:15 p.m. and the final is 2 p.m. at Troy Murray.
