In the regular season the Jets beat the Royals 11-2 on Nov. 16 in Edmonton and 6-2 on Jan. 10 at the Ray McDonald Sports Centre.

The Jets (24-11-3) finished league play tied for the west division pennant and the Royals (26-10-2) placed fourth in the east standings.

The series winner will play the Spruce Grove Regals (24-12-2) or Beaumont Chiefs (27-10-1) in the best-of-five final.

In the quarter-finals the Jets swept the Edmonton Mustangs (18-16-4) by scores of 6-1, 4-2 and 5-1 and the Royals crowned the Sherwood Park Knights (30-6-2) in four games.

Dalen Paul was the top scorer against the Mustangs with three goals and three assists. His 40 goals in 36 games this season led the league.

Brady McCorriston and Nick Pratt added two goals and three assists apiece in the series victory.

The SAPEC junior high basketball championships roll into action Friday in St. Albert.

The A finals start at 5:30 p.m. for the girls and 7 p.m. for the boys at the SkyDome.

The B finals are 4 p.m. for the girls and 5:30 p.m. for the boys at Richard S. Fowler School.

The A semifinals were staged Tuesday but the scores were unavailable at press time.

In the girls’ division the 2011 champion Lorne Akins Gators played the Morinville Wolves and the undefeated Vincent J. Maloney Marauders hooped it up against the Sir George Simpson Voyageurs.

In the boys’ division the defending champions from Maloney hooked up with the Richard S. Fowler Falcons and Lorne Akins battled the William D. Cuts Crusaders.

The St. Albert Raiders have home ice advantage this weekend in the Alberta Major Bantam Female Hockey League playoffs.

Game one in the best-of-three north division semifinal against the Grande Prairie Storm starts Friday at 6:45 p.m. at Kinex Arena.

Game two is Saturday at 11:45 a.m. at Mark Messier Arena.

Game three, if needed, goes Sunday at 11:45 a.m. at Akinsdale Arena.

In the north division the Raiders (17-5-4) finished first and the Storm (9-16-1) placed fourth out of five teams.

The Raiders swept the season series by scores of 4-1, 2-0, 2-1 and 2-1.
