The second annual Canadian Progress Club three-on-three pond hockey championship goes today from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. at Lacombe Park Lake.
Teams are guaranteed a minimum of four games.
The fundraiser will assist three local charities: Camp Warwa, Uncles and Aunts at Large and Special Olympics.
The SAPEC junior high basketball championships tip off Friday in St. Albert.
The A finals start at 5:30 p.m. for the girls and 7 p.m. for the boys at the SkyDome.
The defending champions are the Lorne Akins Gators in the girls’ division and Vincent J. Maloney Marauders in the boys’ division.
The B finals are 4 p.m. for the girls and 5:30 p.m. for the boys at Richard S. Fowler School.
As of Wednesday, 89 runners had registered for the 27th annual St. Albert 10-Mile Road Race.
The entry fees for the April 15 competition through www.eventsonline.ca are $45 until March 15 and then $55. Mail in or drop off is $55. The fee on race day is $65 at Grandin mall. Start time is 9:30 a.m.
School teams (three runners per team) pay $60.
Registration forms are available at the Tech Shop in Edmonton, Kinsmen Sport Centre, Cranky’s Bike Shop, Sturgeon Valley Athletic Club (SVAC), all race sponsors and the Running Room. They can be dropped off with the correct cash or cheque at SVAC only.
New this year is a six-kilometre fun run that starts after the 10-miler.
Last year’s registration total was 515 and 422 runners finished the race. Travis McKay of Edmonton repeated as the fastest racer with a time of 52 minutes 59 seconds. The top female was Sarah Bergeron of Edmonton at 61:47.
The 10-miler is hosted by the St. Albert Roadrunners and Triathlon Club.

Organizers of the second annual Leading Edge RunWild Marathon in St. Albert are accepting registrations for the May 6 competition.
Visit www.runwild.ca to enter the 42-kilometre marathon, half marathon, 10-kilometre walk and run, five-km walk and run and WildOnes Kids MaraFun for six- to12-year-olds.
The start area is in front of St. Albert Place and the finish area is located on Taché Street. The Celebration Village will be located in Lions Park.
The winner of the first marathon in St. Albert history was Paul Kane High School athletic director Marc Meunier in two hours, 58 minutes and 21 seconds. There were 121 finishers.
In the half marathon Jason Yorke of Edmonton beat out 540 runners with a first-place time of 1:25:37.
