St. Albert is the host city for seventh annual Special Olympics Canada Winter Games.

The competition features 651 athletes with an intellectual disability, in addition to 51 head coaches, 154 assistant coaches, 13 team managers, 12 chef de mission and 53 mission staff for a total of 934 participants from all 10 provinces and two territories.

Ontario: 187 athletes, 254 total.

British Columbia: 109 athletes, 155 total.

Alberta: 78 athletes, 112 total.

Quebec: 75 athletes, 105 total.

Manitoba: 44 athletes, 66 total.

Nova Scotia: 34 athletes, 51 total.

New Brunswick: 32 athletes, 48 total.

Prince Edward Island: 28 athletes, 40 total.

Saskatchewan: 27 athletes, 41 total.

Newfoundland: 27 athletes, 41 total.

Yukon: seven athletes, 14 total.

North West Territories/Nunavut: three athletes, seven total.

Several of the gold medallists in the following seven sports will represent Canada at the 2013 worlds in Pyeongchang, South Korea.

Alpine skiing

Venue: Marmot Basin in Jasper.

Athletes: 39.

Events: giant slalom, slalom, Super-G.

Times/dates: 9:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Thursday and Friday.

Cross-country skiing

Venue: Strathcona Wilderness Park in Strathcona County.

Athletes: 84.

Events: 1 kilometre, 2.5 km, 5 km, 7.5 km, 10 km, 100 metres, 500m.

Times/dates: 8:45 a.m. to 4 p.m. today and Thursday; 8:45 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. Friday.

Curling

Venue: St. Albert Curling Club.

Athletes: 90.

Event: maximum eight-end games (two-hour limit).

Times/dates: 7:45 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. today; 7:45 a.m. to 6 p.m. Thursday and Friday; 9:15 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Saturday.

Figure skating

Venue: Mark Messier Arena.

Athletes: 45.

Events: singles (levels 1 to 6), pairs (levels 1 to 3), ice dancing (levels 1 to 4), male free skate, female free skate, male dance, female dance, pairs free skate, pairs dance.

Times/dates: 9 a.m. to 7 p.m. today; 10 a.m. to 4:45 p.m. Thursday; 9 a.m. to 7 p.m. Friday.

Floor hockey

Venue: Servus Credit Union Place

Athletes: 256.

Event: three 12-minute periods, one-minute intermission between each period.

Times/dates: 8:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. today; 8:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. Thursday and Friday; 8:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. Saturday.

Snowshoeing

Venue: St. Albert Rugby Football Club.

Athletes: 110.

Events: 100m, 200m, 400m, 800m, 1,600m, 5 km, 10 km, 4x100m relay.

Times/dates: 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. today; 8 a.m. to 5:15 p.m. Thursday; 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Friday; 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Saturday.

Speed skating

Venue: Troy Murray Arena.

Athletes: 46.

Events: 111m, 222m, 333m, 500m, 777m, 1,000m, 1,500m, 3,000m, 4x888m relay.

Times/dates: 8:45 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. today and Thursday.
