League play wraps up today in SAPEC junior high basketball. The ESSMY Leopards host the Morinville Wolves and the Elmer S. Gish Warriors visit the Sir George Simpson Voyageurs. Tip-off times are 4 p.m. for the girls and 5:30 p.m. for the boys.

The playoffs start Tuesday with the quarter-finals and the semifinals are March 9 for the B bracket and March 10 for the A bracket.

The Tier II finals are March 10 at a venue to be determine and the Tier I finals are March 13 at the SkyDome.

The defending Tier I boys’ and girls’ city champions are the Vincent J. Maloney Marauders.

The Morinville Jets play a must-win game tonight in the Capital Junior B Hockey League playoffs.

Game three in the best-of-five quarter-final against the North Edmonton Red Wings starts at 8 p.m. at Londonderry Arena.

The Red Wings beat the Jets 4-2 and 6-2 last weekend.

If needed, game four is 7 p.m. Friday at Ray McDonald Sports Centre and game five is 8 p.m. Sunday at Londonderry Arena.

The Red Wings (26-7-5) finished second and the Jets (24-11-3) were third in the west division.

The Morinville Kings and the Devon Barons resume their North Central Senior AA Hockey League semifinal series this weekend.

Game two in the best-of-five playoff is 8:30 p.m. Friday at Dale Fisher Arena in Devon.

The Kings host game three at 8:30 p.m. Saturday at Ray McDonald Sports Centre.

If needed, game four is March 7 at 7:30 p.m. at Devon and game five is March 8 at 6:45 p.m. at Morinville.

Last weekend the Barons doubled the Kings 8-4 in the series opener in Morinville.

The two-time defending NCHL champions outshot the Kings 46-30.

The Kings were led by Jorey Mcrae’s two goals and Kyle Beddows added one goal and two assists.

The Kings dressed only 14 skaters for the contest.

In league play the second-place Kings (13-4-1) beat the third-place Barons (10-7-1) by scores of 6-5 and 7-4 and after losing 4-2.

The Kings are coming off a 3-1 opening-round victory over the last-place Winterhawks (4-14) and the Barons swept the sixth-place Edson Ice (5-13) in three games.

Tim Nolte is the Kings’ top playoff scorer with nine points. Dalen Paul and Joel Pelletier share the team lead in goals with four apiece.
