Thursday the Paul Kane Blues host the 4A provincial champion Harry Ainlay Titans in metro Edmonton division one men’s basketball.
Tipoff is 5 p.m. at Paul Kane High School.
In the division one standings the Titans (12-0) are first and the Blues (7-4) share fifth place with the Holy Trinity Trojans (7-5) and St. Francis Xavier Rams (7-4).
The top eight teams qualify for the March 2 quarter-finals.
The 4A rankings list the Titans at No. 1 and the Blues are an honourable mention.
The Blues are undefeated in four games entering today’s contest against the Voyageurs (4-6) at 5 p.m. at M.E. Lazerte High School.
The St. Albert Merchants will play the Beverly Warriors or Stony Plain Flyers in the best-of-five west division playoffs in the Capital Junior B Hockey League.
Game one is 8 p.m. Friday at Akinsdale Arena and it will feature the team’s score and win event.
Dates and times for the rest of the quarter-final series were unavailable at press time.
The Merchants (32-6) finished first overall for the second straight year after closing out the regular season with nine straight wins while going 19-1 in their last 20 games.
Beverly (23-11-4) and the Flyers (23-12-3) placed fourth and fifth, respectively, in the west. The third and deciding game in their best-of-three opening round is 8 p.m. tonight at Londonderry Arena.
The Merchants, last year’s Founders Cup finalists and fourth-place team at provincials, are 3-1 against both Beverly and the Flyers this season.
Meanwhile, the Morinville Jets (24-11-3) swept the Edmonton Mustangs (18-18-2) by scores of 7-3 and 4-3 in overtime on Tyler Hagel’s winner on the power play.
The Jets will face-off against the North Edmonton Red Wings (26-7-5) in the next playoff round. The teams split their four-game season series.

The Dynamyx Gymnastics Club of St. Albert hosts its annual Sweetheart Meet this weekend at its Chisholm Avenue facility.
Approximately 243 provincial level one to four gymnasts, ranging in age from six to 16, from 17 clubs across north central Alberta are competing in seven sessions.
It’s one of a series of meets in northern Alberta to prepare athletes for the Northern Regional Provincials, March 13 to 15 at Grande Prairie, in their quest to qualify for the Alberta Gymnastics Federation championships in April at Lethbridge.
The first session is 8:30 a.m. Saturday and the final session is 4:30 p.m. Sunday.
