The fourth annual Skyhawks Invitational high school women’s basketball tournament wraps up today with eight games scheduled at the SkyDome.

In the championship side of the eight-team draw the semifinals are 11:30 a.m. and 1:15 p.m., the third-place game is 6:30 p.m. and the final is 8:15 p.m.

The host St. Albert Skyhawks played the St. Francis Xavier Rams on Friday but the score was unavailable at press time.

The fourth-ranked 4A Skyhawks are the reigning tournament champions.

The 2014 provincial bronze medallists are 12-2 as winners of two out of three tournaments this season.

A victory Friday would put the Skyhawks in the 11:30 a.m. semifinal against the seventh-ranked 4A Medicine Hat Kwahommies, winners of the Paul Kane Classic, or the Archbishop Jordan Scots.

The Miles Macdonell Buckeyes of Winnipeg, Edmonton Christian Lions (defending 3A provincial champions are ranked third in 3A), Chinook Coyotes of Lethbridge (last year’s 4A provincial finalists are ranked 10th in 4A) and Chestermere Lakers are also entered.

The St. Albert Raiders have home-ice advantage this weekend in the Alberta Midget AAA Hockey League.

The Raiders (16-6-7) face-off against the Fort Saskatchewan Rangers (12-10-6) today and Sunday’s game is against the Lloydminster Bobcats (16-9-3). Start times are 1:15 p.m.

The Raiders are winners of their last five games at Akinsdale Arena and the team’s home record is 8-3-3.

In the north division the Raiders are one point behind the first-place Canadian Athletic Club (18-8-4) with a game in hand.

After this weekend the Raiders have three games left before the playoffs. The last league game is Feb. 15 against the Red Deer Chiefs (10-13-5) in St. Albert.

League play in metro Edmonton high school basketball resumes Monday after the exam break.

In division one women at 5 p.m. the St. Albert Skyhawks (4-1) host the St. Joseph Saints (4-2) and the Paul Kane Blues (4-1) are in Sherwood Park to play the Bev Facey Falcons (2-2).

In division one men at 6:30 p.m. the Blues (3-4) visit the Strathcona Lords (2-5) and the Bellerose Bulldogs (0-7) travel to face the Ross Sheppard Thunderbirds (5-1).

Tuesday in division two pool B the Bulldogs (1-1) play the Sturgeon Spirits (1-1) in the women’s schedule at 5 p.m. at Namao and at 6:30 p.m. the Skyhawks (3-2) and Spirits (1-1) hoop it up in men’s action at the SkyDome.
