NCABL Cardinals
Tuesday’s victory lifted the St. Albert Cardinals into second place in the North Central Alberta Baseball League.The senior AA Cardinals raised their record to 7-3 in the 7-4 decision against the Edmonton Athletes at Legion Memorial Park.
The Sherwood Park A’s are No. 1 at 8-1.
Ryan Sport and Hayden Chies, the first and second hitters in the batting order, were a combined 5-for-8.
Jake Enright reached base all four times at the plate and scored two runs on RBIs by Scott Peterson.
Cole Cooper also drove in two runs.
Tanner McLean-Poll secured his team-leading third win during a solid 5-1/3 innings and Ian Pollard picked up the save with 1-2/3 innings of relief.
Logan Buchannan also made his first start in the outfield in six years.
The Cardinals and Athletics (4-7) meet again Monday at 7:15 p.m. at Wally Footz Field.
Meanwhile, the NCABL upheld the protest by the Cardinals over a false line-up card submission by the Edmonton Blackhawks on May 29 in St. Albert and the result was a 7-0 win instead of the 6-5 loss.
The Cardinals and Blackhawks (5-4-1) hook up Wednesday at 7:15 p.m. at Edmonton Professional Park.
Impact women
The St. Albert Impact (Murphy) division 1A women’s team is tied for top spot in the Edmonton District Soccer Association with two matches in three days on tap at Riel Park.Today’s kick-off is 4 p.m. against Olympia FC (1-3-2) and Monday’s start time is 6:30 p.m. against the Spruce Grove Saints (3-2-2).
The Impact, winners of four in a row, and FC Excelsior are 4-1-1.
Premier soccer
All three St. Albert Impact premier women’s teams are in action Tuesday and two matches will be played at Riel Park.The Edmonton District Soccer Association doubleheader starts at 6:30 p.m. between Impact 1 (Spaidal) and Victoria (7-0-1), followed by the 8:15 p.m. contest between Impact 2 (Bourbonnais/Brown) and Hearts United (3-5-1).
The Impact 3 (Murphy) team has a 7 p.m. date in Sherwood Park against Phoenix (3-5-1) at Salisbury Athletic Park.
In the premier table, Impact 1 (8-2) is second, Impact 2 (3-3-2) is fifth and Impact 3 (3-6-1) is tied for sixth.
The last match for Impact 1 was 10-1 against Wind (1-8) Tuesday in St. Albert.
Mandy McKinnon pumped in four goals and Jazmyne Mauthe and Casey Paplawski added two apiece.
The last two matches for Impact 2 against Phoenix and Victoria were rained out and Impact 3 is coming off a 7-1 drubbing by Angels Scottish SC (4-4-) Tuesday in St. Albert as Beth Crothers scored the lone goal.
Rugger’s Run
Online registrations are being accepted for the first annual Rugger’s Run, hosted by the St. Albert Rugby Football Club on July 29.Visit www.itsyourrace.com and search for Rugger’s Run to enter the 15-kilometre run or the five-km run/walk.
The registration fee before July 15 is $50 for the 15 km and $40 for the five km and everyone gets a T-shirt.
Race times are 10 a.m. for the 15 km and 10:20 a.m. for the five km at SARFC.
Athletics Alberta is providing chip timing.
All participants receive a free post-race meal.
