Mission ringette
The St. Albert Mission teams resume play in preparation for the Ringette Alberta AA championships.Game times for the U16AA Mission juniors are 1 p.m. today against Sherwood Park Power at Mark Messier Arena and 3:30 p.m. Sunday against Zone 5 Pack at River Cree Twin Rinks.
The juniors are 6-22-1 and the next tournament is the 32nd annual Golden Ring, Jan. 19 to 21 in Calgary.
Sunday the U19AA Mission belles and the open A St. Albert Crew clash at 6:45 p.m. at Go Auto Arena.
The belles are 8-11-1 and the fourth tournament of the season is Feb. 1 to 4 in Richmond Hill, Ont.
The U14AA Mission tweens have an extended break until next weekend with games Jan. 13 against Zone 5 Edge at 2:15 p.m. at River Cree and Jan. 14 against Spruce Grove Storm at 11:15 a.m. at Troy Murray Arena.
The Golden Ring is the fifth tournament for the 22-5-1 tweens, winners of the Bernadette Price Memorial in Saskatoon and finalists at the Central Alberta Ice Breaker and Wood competitions.
The top teams at provincials, Feb. 23 to 25 in Edmonton, advance to the U14AA westerns in March at Saskatoon and the U16AA and U19AA nationals in April at Winnipeg.
Midget AA games
St. Albert’s midget AA teams return to action after the Christmas break in the Northern Alberta Hockey League.Today the Blues (10-2-3) play SSAC Lakewood Chevrolet (11-5-4) at 2:45 p.m. at Confederation Arena and Tuesday’s game against SSAC Don Wheaton (6-10-2) is 8:30 p.m. at Go Auto Arena.
The Blues start the new year ranked third in the Anderson division after going 3-1-1 in December.
Tonight the Source for Sports Crusaders (11-5-2) face-off against the Lloydminster Blazers (3-14-2) at 6 p.m. in the Border City.
The Crusaders, last year’s NAHL finalists, are slotted second in the Besa division after posting a 2-2 record last month.
The Blue Guys
The St. Albert Merchants skate at home tonight in the Capital Junior B Hockey League.Puck drop is 8 p.m. against the Stony Plain Flyers (12-14-3) at Akinsdale Arena.
The Merchants (15-12) have 10 games remaining before the playoffs after hosting the Strathcona Bruins (13-13-1) Friday. The score was unavailable at press time.
The Blue Guys are coming off a 2-4 showing in December as the fourth-place team in the west division.
