JOINT CUSTODY - Leah McIntosh of the St. Albert Mission U16AA juniors shares possession of the ring with an opponent from Zone 2 (southern Alberta) at the 32nd annual Wood Tournament in late November in Edmonton. The juniors, along with the Mission U14AA tweens and U19AA belles, are competing in the Central Alberta AA Ice Breaker Tournament this weekend in Lacombe.

Mission ringette

The St. Albert Mission ringette teams are competing in the Central Alberta AA Ice Breaker Tournament this weekend in Lacombe. The U14AA Mission tweens have pool games scheduled against the host Central Alberta Sting, Saskatoon Saints and Zone 5. The U16AA Mission juniors are pooled together with the Sting, Sherwood Park Power and Calgary Shock. The U19AA Mission belles face-off against the Calgary Heat and Sting in pool action. The tournament is comprised of eight U14AA and U16AA teams and six U19AA teams. Visit www.score2stats.com for schedules and results. The last tournament for the Mission was the 32nd annual Wood in late November in Edmonton. The Mission were U14AA finalists, 2-3 in U19AA and 0-5 in U16AA.

Raiders Day

The inaugural Raiders Day on Sunday at Akinsdale Arena will showcase five teams in the St. Albert Raiders Hockey Club. The first of four games starts at noon as the Flyers (12-3-4) host the Grande Peace Storm (4-9-7) in the Alberta Minor Midget AAA Hockey League. The next game is 2:30 p.m. between the Gregg Distributors Sabres (13-2-4) and KC Squires (1-18-1) in the Alberta Major Bantam Hockey League. The main event at 5 p.m. features the Blues (9-2-2) and Source for Sports Crusaders (9-4-2) in the Northern Alberta Midget AA Hockey League. The last game is 7:30 p.m. between the Tire Warehouse Raiders (11-7-4) and Maple Leafs (1-18-3) in the Alberta Midget AAA Hockey League. Donation bins for the St. Albert Food Bank and Toys for Tots will be situated in the arena lobby during all four games.

Big game Tuesday

The last game for the St. Albert Tire Warehouse Raiders before the Mac’s Midget AAA World Invitation Tournament is Tuesday against the Canadian Olympic women’s team at Go Auto Arena. Doors open at 6 p.m. and face-off is 7:15 p.m. Tickets are $10 and can be purchased during the first period of Sunday’s game against the Maple Leafs at 7:30 p.m. at Akinsdale Arena. Tickets are also available at Source for Sports St. Albert, online at www.raidershockey.ca or at the door on game day. Seating is general admission. A portion of the tickets sales will be donated to KidSport. The Olympians are 6-4-1 (35 GF/28 GA) against Alberta Midget AAA Hockey League teams this season and the results count in the standings. Meaghan Mikkelson, a defenceman from St. Albert and two-time Olympic gold medallist, is on the Team Canada roster.
