The St. Albert Sr. Miners added to their perfect season this week with an 8-2 victory over the winless Spruce Grove Slash last Wednesday.
The Miners have looked fantastic this year amassing a flawless 12-0 record in the Rocky Mountain Lacrosse Senior B Division.
Owen Williams of the Miners opened the scoring 66 seconds into the game with a great lone effort early to set the tone.
The Slash answered to tie the game a few minutes later but couldn’t stop the oncoming Miners.
With less than two minutes left in the period Darren Kinnear scored to put the Miners up 2-1.
The Miners poured it on in the second period from every line on the bench. Four different line pairings picked up points in a period that the Miners outscored the Slash 5-1.
Tempers flared in the third but the Miners stayed disciplined and finished the game on the power play.
The Miners’ sole penalty was a roughing minor early in the second period. The Slash served five penalties and a game misconduct for hitting from behind.
Assistant Captain Graedon Cornfield added a hat trick to his tally this season with three goals against the Slash.
Cornfield is leading the league in offence with 40 goals and 29 assists in 12 games.
The Miners’ Sean Reid got a goal and an assist and Captain Jordan Cornfield racked up two assists to seal the win for St. Albert.
The last time the Miners met the Slash was at Grant Fuhr Arena on June 25. The Miners won that night with a score of 9-2.
The Miners meet the Edmonton Outlaws this Sunday at Coronation Arena. The game kicks off at 5 p.m.
