The first of five exhibitions for the Raiders is Sept. 12 against the KC Pats at 7:30 p.m. at Troy Murray Arena.
Last season the Raiders finished second in the north standings at 16-14-2 and lost the best-of-five divisional semifinal in five games to the third-place Leduc Oil Kings (14-15-5), the Alberta Midget AAA Hockey League champions.
Jack Redlick is back as head coach of the Raiders.
Bantam Sabres
The St. Albert Gregg Distributors Sabres play their first exhibition Sunday in the Alberta Major Bantam Hockey League.
Puck drop is 5:45 p.m. against the host Sherwood Park Flyers.
Last season the Sabres were No. 1 overall at 31-1-4 but in the playoffs lost the best-of-five north final in five games to the Fort Saskatchewan Rangers (27-7-2), the league champions and bronze medallists at westerns.
Lee Zalasky returns as the Sabres’ bench boss.
Midget 15 Flyers
The St. Albert Flyers have two intersquad games scheduled next week at Akinsdale Arena.
Start times are 8:15 p.m. Tuesday and 7:45 p.m. Wednesday.
Last season the midget 15 Flyers finished first overall in the Alberta Minor Midget AAA Hockey League as the top north division team at 32-4-1.
Flyers also won the Sutter North Cup playoff tournament and were bronze medallists at provincials while going 5-2 in the six-team tournament.
Blake Sydlowski of the Flyers was selected the AMMHL’s most valuable player after finishing third in league scoring with 69 points while scoring 26 goals in 37 games.
The new head coach of the Flyers is Steve Ewaskiw.
Junior B hockey
The St. Albert Merchants make their preseason debut Friday in the Capital Junior B Hockey League.
Faceoff is 8:15 p.m. against the host Sherwood Park Knights.
The Merchants also have exhibitions Sept. 11 against the Edmonton Royals at Confederation Arena and Sept. 17 against the Knights at Akinsdale Arena. Game times are 8 p.m.
Last season the Merchants finished fourth in the west division at 18-16-4 and in the playoffs lost the best-of-three qualifying round in two games to the fifth-place Stony Plain Flyers (17-18-3).
The Merchants’ head coach is Jake Behiels for the second season in a row.
