Thursday’s provincial opener for the St. Albert Source for Sports Crusaders is also a playoff preview for the Northern Alberta Midget AA Hockey League final.

Puck drop is 1:45 p.m. against the Beaumont Braves in the five-team tournament at Glenn Hall Centennial Arena.

The Crusaders also play at 8 p.m. Thursday against the PAC Saints, 3:45 p.m. Friday against the Calgary Blackhawks and 10 a.m. Saturday against the Lethbridge Hurricane Hounds.

Sunday’s finals are 10 p.m. for third place and 1 p.m. for the championship.

The best-of-five NAMHL final starts April 6 at 8:45 p.m. in Beaumont and game two is April 8 at 6:30 p.m. at Go Auto Arena.

Both teams are 6-1-1 in the playoffs and in league play the Crusaders (20-9-3) finished second in the Besa division and Beaumont Braves (22-4-6) placed first in the CanAccom division.

Bantam AA Bears

The St. Albert Bears and Lakeland Panthers will set the stage for the Edmonton Rural Bantam AA Hockey League final in Thursday’s provincial lid-lifter.

Start time is 1:45 p.m. at The Meadows Community Recreation Centre.

Game one in the best-of-three ERBHL final is April 6 at 8 p.m. in Bonnyville and game two is April 8 at 7:30 p.m. at Akinsdale Arena.

The Bears (17-10-5) finished third in the red division before going 6-0-1 in the playoffs and Lakeland (30-1-1) was first in the white division and 7-0 in the post-season.

The five-team provincials for the Bears Includes the 7:15 p.m. Thursday game against the Leduc Roughnecks. The Bears beat Leduc (21-7-4), the top blue division team, 4-1 and 4-3 in double overtime in the best-of-three Metro conference final.

The Bears also face-off against the CBHA Wranglers at 4:15 p.m. Friday and the West Central Tigers at 10 a.m. Saturday.

Storm football

The St. Albert Storm kicks off the midget spring league season Saturday against the Fort McMurray Ravens.

Game time is 2 p.m. at Fuhr Sports Park and admission is $5 per person 12 years and over.

The Capital District Minor Football Association spring league is designed for players entering Grades 10, 11 and 12 in the fall.

The Storm's first home game at Larry Olexiuk Field is April 18 against the Parkland Predators at 6:30 p.m.
