The provincial women's and men's championship teams at the St. Albert Rugby Football Club kick off their season fixtures today against the Strathcona Druids at Ellerslie Rugby Park.

The second division women scrum down at 2:15 p.m. in the Edmonton Rugby Union spring league and the premier men rock the pitch at 4 p.m. in the Alberta Cup.

Last year, the SARFC women finished 11-4 as winners of the fifth provincial female championship in club history and the first since the 13-1 second division Blues in 2009.

The fantastic firsts also celebrated their second Labatt's Cup provincial men's championship in club history and the first since 2010 while going 14-1.

Meanwhile, the men's third division team (1-0) in the ERU travels to Drayton Valley to battle the Riggers today at 2 p.m.

The SARFC women hook up with the Clan at Airway Park Wednesday at 7 p.m.

The first match this season at SARFC is May 20 between the women's team and Parkland Sharks at 7 p.m.

Peewee AAA

The St. Albert Cardinals start a three-game peewee AAA homestand today at Legion Memorial Park

The Cardinals play the Sherwood Park A's at noon and the Fort McMurray Oil Giants at 6 p.m.

Sunday's game against the Oil Giants starts at 11 a.m.

Last weekend in Okotoks, the Cardinals lost 12-0 and 6-3 to the Okotoks Dawgs and against the Spruce Grove White Sox won 10-3 and tied 22-22.

The first game for the Cardinals at the annual St. Albert Early Bird Tournament next weekend is Friday against Sherwood Park at 6:30 p.m.

The Cardinals graduated 12 players from last year's Baseball Alberta Tier I champions and fourth-place team at the U13 nationals that finished 36-12 overall.

Junior Cardinals

The St. Albert Junior Cardinals are up to bat Sunday in the North Central Alberta Baseball League.

The first pitch is 2 p.m. against the two-time reigning champion Edmonton Blackhawks at Legion Memorial Park.

This is the third season for the Cardinals in the senior AA circuit. Last year they tied for seventh in the 11-team standings at 8-12.

The Cardinals visit the Sturgeon Paladins at 7:15 p.m. Wednesday in Bon Accord.

The Cardinals are also hosting the second annual Rainmaker Rodeo Invitational Tournament, sanctioned by the NCABL, May 22 to 24. The tournament payout is $100 per win, $150 for the second-place team and $250 for the winner.
