Miners at home

Friday the St. Albert Miners make their home debut against the South Edmonton Warriors in the Rocky Mountain Lacrosse League.

Sunday the Miners visit the Rockyview Knights at 3:30 p.m. in Airdrie.

Last weekend the 2014 senior B Presidents' Cup national bronze medallists and provincial champions won their season opener 7-5 against the host Sherwood Park Outlaws.

Last year the Miners finished 27-3 overall on the strength of 26 consecutive victories before losing three in a row at nationals.

SARFC fixtures

The St. Albert Rugby Football Club kicks off their women's and premier men's fixtures Saturday against the Strathcona Druids at Ellerslie Rugby Park.

The provincial women's second division champions scrum down at 2:15 p.m. in the Edmonton Rugby Union spring league and the Labatt's Cup provincial men's champions in the Alberta Cup ruck and maul at 4 p.m.

Crude at home

Saturday the St. Albert Crude hosts the Edmonton Warriors in the Rocky Mountain Lacrosse League.

The junior B Tier I match starts at 7:30 p.m. at Akinsdale Arena.

During the first period intermission the Crude will celebrate the 10th anniversary of the St. Albert program. The 2006 Crude team will be introduced and Gord Brittain, the team's inaugural manager, will be recognized with a special tribute.

The Crude are 1-2 this season after last weekend's 11-9 loss to the Warriors (2-1) at Bill Hunter Arena.

In the second period the Warriors capitalized three times on the power play during a 2:22-minute span while outscoring the Crude 6-2 to lead 9-6 after 40 minutes.

The Warriors finished with nine goals with the man advantage and the Crude struck three times on the power play in the opening period.

Two of Simon Hansen's team-high five goals were power-play markers.

Adam Hardinge potted one goal and added four assists.

Brody Tod, Maurice Kelly and Cam Ellingson also scored and Owen Feist had three helpers.

The Crude are a young team with nine players new to junior B Tier I lacrosse and five of those players are first-year juniors.

In total, the Crude had to replace 11 players from last year's north division pennant winners at 15-4-1 with a league-high 31 points.

Sunday the Crude plays the Red Deer Rampage (2-0-1), the defending provincial champion, at 12:30 p.m. at Akinsdale.

Two weekends ago the Crude lost 7-5 in Red Deer.
