The St. Albert Merchants gassed a two-goal lead as the North Edmonton Red Wings closed out Wednesday's win with five in a row at Londonderry Arena.

The Red Wings potted four consecutive markers with under nine minutes remaining in the second period and the team's last goal was deposited with 1:50 remaining in the 6-3 decision.

Cam Mazur’s team-high 18th goal opened the scoring for the Merchants and Peter Corrigan made it 2-1 with his 12th of the season with 7:20 left in the period.

The Merchants led 3-1 on Matt Havens’ 15th goal and team-leading 47th point with 2:05 gone in the middle frame.

Only one penalty was called in the game as Mazur was whistled for roughing in the first.

Shots were 20-6 in the second, 19-9 in the third and 47-23 overall for the Red Wings as Ethan Crotty (9-9, 3.87 GAA) was in net for the Merchants.

The loss dropped the fourth-place Merchants (17-13-1) nine points back of the second-place Red Wings (21-10-2) in the west division of the Capital Junior B Hockey League.

The Merchants have seven games remaining before the playoffs when they host the Edmonton Mustangs (12-16-3) Sunday at 8 p.m. at Akinsdale Arena.

The Blue Guys are 7-8-1 on home ice.
