Road race

The online registration deadline for the Landrex St. Albert Road Race is April 20 at midnight.

Visit www.zone4.ca to enter the 33rd annual 10-miler or the fourth annual 10- and five-kilometre races as well as the one-km fun run for kids.

The April 22 road race, presented by Active Physio Works, includes a school and run club component.

The start times are 9 a.m. for the 10-miler, 9:05 for the 10 km, 9:10 a.m. for the five km and 11 a.m. for the one km.

The start/finish line is in front of the St. Albert Curling Club on Sir Winston Churchill Avenue.

The event’s website is www.stalbertroadrace.com.

As of Monday, 137 males and females were confirmed for the road race, including 65 in the 10-miler.

Last year’s road race in the snow and cold featured 105 finishers in the 10-miler, 45 in the 10 km, 61 in the five km and 73 in the one km.

The 10-mile winner was Kieran McDonald of Edmonton in one hour and eight seconds and the fastest female was Kelly Marcotte, a St. Albert Catholic High School alumna, at 1:11:10 for 10th place overall.

Also crossing the finish line in first place were Robert Gustas in the 10 km at 37:48, Luke Hanson in the five km at 17:40 and Samuel Dean in the one km at 7:26.

Proceeds from the road race support You Can Ride 2, a free program that teaches youths with special needs or coordination challenges how to ride a two-wheel bicycle.

Badminton action

High school badminton resumes this week after the spring break in the metro Edmonton league.

Today at 4 p.m. in division four, the St. Albert Skyhawks (3-1) play the St. John Paul II Patriots (5-3) of Fort Saskatchewan and Edmonton Islamic Academy (0-10) at the SkyDome.

Thursday in division two, the first-place Paul Kane Blues (6-1) host the O’Leary Spartans (4-2) at 4 p.m. and the Bellerose Bulldogs (2-5) are in Sherwood Park for matches against the Holy Trinity Trojans (3-1) and St. Joseph Saints (3-1) starting at 4:45 p.m. at Bev Facey High School.

Tuesday’s division three scores for the Sturgeon Spirits (4-3) against the visiting Memorial Marauders (7-1) and Oscar Romero Ravens (2-4) were unavailable at press time.
