Bal shredded the Raiders for five goals and eight assists in the 23-2 blowout. Tonight the Miners (1-0-1) play the Edmonton Warriors (1-0) at 8:30 p.m. at Bill Hunter Arena.

The Miners are 1-0-1 after burying the Calgary Raiders 23-2 Saturday at Go Auto Arena.

The Warriors won their home opener 15-0 against the Raiders (0-3) Sunday in the Rocky Mountain Lacrosse League.

Eleven players on the Miners combined for 22 even-strength goals and one shorthanded marker against the Calgary visitors.

Period scores were 9-1 and 18-2.

Keegan Bal racked up five goals and eight assists in his Miners debut. The Coquitlam, B.C. product completed his rookie season with the Vancouver Stealth in the National Lacrosse League. He was originally selected in the third round, 25th overall, in the 2013 NLL entry draft by the Toronto Rock.

Rich Lachlan, a first-year Miner from the New Westminster Salmonbellies in the Western Lacrosse Association, fired seven goals and picked up four assists.

Darren Kinnear and captain Jordan Cornfield recorded two goals apiece and Chris Schmidt, Ben Snider, Sean Reid, Derek Burak, Tom Buckley, Spencer Lee and Owen Williams also scored for the host team for the Presidents’ Cup national championship, Aug. 29 to Sept. 4 at the Leduc Recreation Centre.

The St. Albert Crude are winners of two in a row when they host the Red Deer Rampage in Thursday’s junior B Tier I game

Start time is 9 p.m. at Akinsdale Arena.

The Crude are 2-3 and the Rampage are 4-1-1 in the Rocky Mountain Lacrosse League.

The teams played April 30 in Red Deer and the Crude lost 12-9.

The last game for the Crude was Friday’s 7-4 decision against the Fort Saskatchewan Rebels (3-2) in St. Albert.

Four power-play goals by the Crude, including a pair in the third period as the home team out-scored the Rebels 3-1, paved the way to victory against the team they lost 14-6 in the league opener in St. Albert.

Ben Holowaty tallied twice during a six-point night.

Keegan Doll also potted a pair and Ethan Serafinchon, Jesse Ott and Liam Potgieter notched singles. Ott also drew three assists and Doll added a pair.

Ott’s goal was his team-high 10th and is the co-leader in points with Doll at 18 apiece.

Holowaty also ranks near the top with six goals and 17 points.

The junior A St. Albert Miners suffered a weekend sweep at the hands of the Calgary Mountaineers at Go Auto Arena.

The Miners went down to defeat 17-8 and 25-9 against last year’s provincial finalists, who were making their season debut in the Rocky Mountain Lacrosse League.

This weekend the Miners (2-2) are in Saskatoon for three games against the Saskatchewan SWAT (0-3-1), who joined the RMLL junior A ranks this year.

The Miners started league play with wins of 11-10 and 14-9 against the SWAT in St. Albert.
