Kids of Steel

Monday is the cutoff date for the 27th annual St. Albert Kids of Steel Triathlon on June 10 at Fountain Park Recreation Centre.

Athletes between four and 19 years old can register as an individual or as a team on a swim-bike-run course varying in distance per age group.

The Kids of Steel also consists of a youth and junior triathlon, a bike draft legal race for 16- to 19-year-olds.

The Kids of Steel, hosted by the St. Alberta Triathlon Association, is a qualifying event for the Alberta Summer Games, July 19 to 22 in Grande Prairie.

Last year 220 athletes and three teams finished the Kids of Steel.

Fastball weekend

The second consecutive Prairie League Softball tournament in St. Albert is underway at the Meadowview and Lorne Akins diamonds.

Fastball St. Albert teams are among the competitors in the U19, U16, U14 and U12 B divisions and last weekend’s tournament was for the A division age groups.

Next weekend is the 21st annual Fastball St. Albert Invitational Tournament and last year’s event featured 49 teams in nine A and B age divisions.

SARFC matches

The St. Albert Rugby Football Club hosts the Calgary Rams today in the Alberta premier women's league.

Kickoff is 2 p.m. between SARFC (0-1, 22 PF/29 PA) and the Rams (1-2, 83 PF/106 PA).

The Alberta Cup premier and Edmonton Rugby Union division two men’s teams also scrum down in today’s doubleheader at Calgary Rugby Park.

Start times are 2:45 p.m. between the firsts (1-0, 31 PF/19 PA) and Rams (2-0, 83 PF/60 PA) and 4:30 p.m. between the seconds (0-2, 31 PF/92 PA) and Rams (1-1-1, 99 PF/107 PA).

Dawg Bowl VII

The seventh annual Dawg Bowl kicks off Tuesday at 5 p.m. at Larry Olexiuk Field.

The intersquad game wraps up the high school football spring camp for the Bellerose Bulldogs.

Last year’s score was 40-28 as Team White beat Team Cardinal for the third year in a row.

Simpson triathlon

The tradition continues for the Sir George Simpson Triathlon.

The 27th annual competition is good to go Wednesday morning at Grosvenor pool.

Last year’s triathlon featured 240 participants and 72 race marshals/volunteers for the 80-metre swim, 1.2-kilometre bike and one-km run.
