Junior masters
Brooke Brezovski of the Sturgeon Valley Golf & Country Club carded a fourth-place finish in the U14 female division at The PGA of Alberta Junior Masters.Brezovski, 14, posted scores of 86 and a personal best 74 for a two-day total of 160 last week at Wolf Creek Golf Resort.
The first round was played on the Old Course and the second round on the Links Course.
The result also put Brezovski in a three-way tie for seventh out of 20 females in the U14, U16 and U18 competition.
Players qualified for the tournament invites based on their previous year’s position on the Golf Canada Junior Order of Merit.
The initiative was to provide elite level competition to a limited field of Alberta’s top junior golfers.
The overall champion was U18 golfer Taylor Stone of the Pinebrook Golf & Country Club at 144 (72, 72). Stone is coming off her freshmen NCAA division one golf season with the University of Texas at El Paso.
The first U14 flight finisher was Tillie Claggett of the Glencoe Golf & Country Club at 145 (75, 70) for second place overall.
Annabelle Ackroyd of the Glencoe placed third as the U16 flight winner at 147 (74, 73).
Brezovski and her younger sister, Belle, will tee it up this weekend at the Future Links, driven by Acura Western Championship, at the Highwood Golf & Country Club. The tournament is among a series of six regional junior golf championships for females and males.
Meanwhile, Connor Ackroyd of Sturgeon Valley fired a two-day total of 160 (81, 79) at the Alberta Junior Masters for 15th place in the U18 male flight at Wolf Creek.
Best in the west
The 2019 Western Canadian Ringette Championships are coming to St. Albert.Teams from the four western provinces in the U14AA, U16A, U19A and 18-plus A divisions will compete for medals March 27 to 30 at Servus Credit Union Place.
The St. Albert Ringette Association is hosting westerns.
The 2018 westerns in Saskatoon featured 10 U14AA teams, including five from Alberta, five U16A teams, five U19A teams and five 18-plus A teams. Each division included a host team.
The St. Albert Mission were the U14AA silver medallists.
