Division 1A Impact

The St. Albert Impact 4 (Murphy) division 1A women’s team maintained its first-place status with 12 goals in two matches over three days at Riel Park.

Brittany Kindzierski scored half of the Impact’s goals in Monday’s 6-2 win over the Spruce Grove Saints (3-3-2).

Maria Czyz potted a pair and Kelsey Carter also tallied in support of goalkeeper Kathleen Lang.

Kindzierski also netted two more for a team-high 10 goals and set up four makers in the Saturday’s 6-6 draw against Olympia FC (1-4-3).

The Impact battled back from a 3-1 deficit to lead 6-5 but gave up the equalizer late in the contest.

Czyz recorded three goals and Katrina Bonnycastle also scored.

Chloe Eaton, a U17 call-up, pulled off several big saves to keep the Impact in the match.

The Impact (5-1-2) is one point ahead of the Edmonton Warriors (5-2-1) and FC Excelsior (5-1-1) in the Edmonton District Soccer Association table.

The Impact and Excelsior face off Monday at 6:30 p.m. at Riel Park.

Midget A Rams

The first loss after nine wins for the first-place midget A St. Albert Rams was Monday’s outcome against the Parkland Posse at Coronation Arena.

Two goals 62 seconds apart by Mathieu Gautier pulled the Rams to within one of the Posse with under six minutes remaining but the 9-8 score stayed intact despite a power-play opportunity for the St. Albert squad.

Gautier led all scorers with five goals and six points.

Luigi Benincasa scored twice and Ronin Pusch also connected for the Rams.

Period scores were 5-4 and 8-6 for the Posse.

Shots were 44-33 for the Posse and Jace Simington-Lesanko was in net for the Rams.

The third game in a row between the Rams (11-4) and Posse (10-6) is 8 p.m. Thursday at Glenn Hall Centennial Arena.

The Rams lead the season series 3-2.

The Rams (11-4) close out the Greater Edmonton Lacrosse Council regular season Friday against Saskatchewan SWAT (1-4-1) at 9 p.m. at Bill Hunter Arena.

Last week’s Alberta Lacrosse Association top-10 midget A rankings listed the Rams first and the Posse third.

In league scoring, Gautier is second in goals (30) and points (49). Benincasa is fourth in points (37) and second on the Rams in goals (20) and Pusch is fifth in points (36) and third on the team in goals (19).

Keiran Harris is the most penalized Ram with 59 minutes in the sin-bin.

NCABL Cardinals

Tonight the St. Albert Cardinals and Edmonton Blackhawks cross paths for the first time since the controversial May 29 senior AA game in the North Central Alberta Baseball League.

First pitch is 7:15 p.m. at Edmonton Professional Park.

The Cardinals protested last month’s 6-5 loss to the Blackhawks in St. Albert over a false line-up card submission and the NCABL upheld the protest and awarded the Cardinals a 7-0 win.

The Cardinals (7-4) and Blackhawks (7-4-1) are chasing the Sherwood Park Athletics (8-1) and Stony Plain Mets (7-2-1) for the league pennant.

The last game for the Cardinals was Monday’s 15-12 loss to the Edmonton Athletics (5-7) at Wally Footz Field.

The next home game is Tuesday versus the Mets at 7:15 p.m. at Legion Memorial Park.
