Impact 1 women

Jazmyne Mauthe’s fourth goal of the season stood the test of time in the fourth victory in a row for the St. Albert Impact 1 (Spaidal) premier women’s team.

Tuesday's 1-0 decision against Sherwood Park Phoenix (2-4-1) at Riel Park also solidified the third-place standing for the Impact (5-1) in the Edmonton District Soccer Association.

The Impact are in action Sunday against Wind (1-5) at 4 p.m. and Tuesday against Northwest United (5-0-1) at 6:30 p.m. at ESA Complex.

Impact 2 women

An early start by Northwest United left the St. Albert Impact 2 (Bourbonnais/Brown) premier women’s team playing catch up in Tuesday’s 2-0 loss at Riel Park.

Raeghan McCarthy, an Alberta major league player with second-place Northwest (5-0-1), found the back of the net three minutes into the match and the second goal was scored off an unfortunate scramble 25 minutes into the second half as Impact goalkeeper Tianna Groeneveld was unsuccessful tipping the ball over the crossbar from a 45-yard free kick. The ball hit the crossbar and fell to the feet of Northwest in a swarm of players and was slotted into the net.

After the first goal the next 60 minutes were fairly even with Northwest having the bulk of possession and the Impact content to hold shape and keep Northwest outside.

Down 2-0, the Impact pushed hard and came close to scoring but hit a post and a few minutes later fired the ball just wide of an open net.

The Impact’s back line turned in a strong performance against a Northwest lineup with Alberta major league experience. Kiersten Girard, a call-up from the Impact 02 youth team, played substantial minutes, Samantha Bourbonnais, a sturdy left back, stood her ground while tested by Northwest’s leading scorers, Megan Lemoine and Salma Kamel with four apiece, while Kennedy Hay and Caitlin Schmiemann, a pair of high school students, and Taylor Chow also showed good form defensively.

The next match for the Impact (3-3-1) in the Edmonton District Soccer Association is Tuesday against St. Albert Impact 3 (Murphy) at 6:30 p.m. at Riel Park.

Impact 3 women

Tuesday’s premier women’s tilt between St. Albert Impact 3 (Murphy) and St. Albert Impact 2 (Bourbonnais/Brown) in the Edmonton District Soccer Association kicks off at 6:30 p.m. at Riel Park.

Impact 3 (3-4) is coming off last week’s 4-1 decision against Rionero FC (1-6) in St. Albert.

MacKenzie Sharun, Shannon MacGillivary, Brook-Lynn Ashworth and Sarah Mattiello scored and the goalkeeper was Renee Chattargoon.

Impact 4 women

The St. Albert Impact 4 (Murphy) division 1A women’s team marches into Monday’s match as the winner of three in a row by shutouts.

Kickoff is 6:30 p.m. against Azzurri (0-3-2) at ESA Complex.

The Impact (3-1-1) ranks second behind FC Excelsior (4-0-1) in the Edmonton District Soccer Association.

Brittany Kindzierski is tied for second in the scoring table with four goals.

Boyko delivers

Noah Boyko was the man of the match for the St. Albert Rangers in Monday’s division 1A draw against Futballers FC in the Edmonton District Soccer Association.

Boyko scored a couple of beauties, including a phenomenal header in the 3-3 stalemate at Foote Field.

Last year Boyko finished second in team scoring with nine goals.

Ben Smith also tallied against the second-place Futballers (3-0-2) as the Rangers made the most of their opportunities in the offensive end.

The Rangers (1-2-1) play Spruce Grove Saints/Man City (1-3) today at 1 p.m. at Fuhr Sports Park and Monday against the first-place Edmonton Warriors (4-1) at 6:30 p.m. at ESA Complex.
