Impact vs. Impact
Cailyn Newman scored the only goal in Tuesday’s match showcasing two of the three St. Albert Impact premier women's teams in the Edmonton District Soccer Association.Newman converted a corner kick 15 minutes into the second half for Impact 1 (Spaidal) against Impact 2 (Bourbonnais/Brown) at ESA Complex.
Impact 1 was able to put the ball across the front of the goal after the back-post corner kick and Newman was first to the ball before any Impact 2 defenders and found the back of the net from eight yards out.
Impact 2 goalkeeper Chloe Eaton, who just turned 16, was a youth trialist playing her first women’s match and had no chance on the play.
Impact 1 goalkeeper Jamie Misiaszek posted the shutout.
Impact 1 is now 2-1 (three GF/five GA) and Impact 2 (five GF/five GA) is 2-2 in the 10-team premier division.
Tuesday’s matches kick-off at 7 p.m. for Impact 1 against the host Angels Scottish SC (2-1) and Impact 2 against Rionero FC (1-3) at ESA Complex.
The next St. Albert showdown is June 5 between Impact 2 and Impact 3 (Murphy) at 6:30 p.m. at Riel Park.
Impact explosion
After three shutout losses, the St. Albert Impact 3 (Murphy) premier women’s team pumped in six goals in the first win of the season in the Edmonton District Soccer Association.Brittany Boe and Hayat Abubaker tallied twice and Ahlam Abubaker and Sarah Mattiello scored in support of goalkeeper Renee Chatergoon in Tuesday’s 6-1 decision against Wind (1-2) at Goldstick Park.
The Impact let in 12 goals in three games before busting loose offensively.
The next match is Tuesday against Victoria (2-0-1). Kickoff is 7 p.m. at Victoria Soccer Club.
SAWSL season
The St. Albert Women’s Soccer League kicks off the summer fixtures with two fewer teams in the fold.The remaining six teams are in action next week at Forest Park field.
Games times are 7 p.m. between Mavericks 09 and Mavericks 95, Gini’s versus Titans and Kickers against Devils.
The triple round robin ends with the playoffs in September.
Last year the Morinville Ladies (8-6-1) forfeited the division one final to Mavericks 09 (15-0) and the Devils (9-4) repeated as the division two playoff winners.
The division one playoff cup was the fourth in a row for Mavericks 09, bronze medallists at the 2017 Alberta Soccer Association Tier III championship.
