The Bulldogs (3-1-1) can punch their ticket for the Nov. 7 semifinals with victories against the Salisbury Sabres (4-1) Tuesday at 6 p.m. at Emerald Hills Regional Park and the Ross Sheppard Thunderbirds (0-5) Oct. 30 at 7:30 p.m. at Clarke Stadium.
The top four teams qualify for the division one playoffs and the rest of the eight-team conference competes for division two honours.
The Bulldogs share fourth place with the Harry Ainlay Titans after posting their second shutout of the season in Tuesday’s 31-0 decision against the Memorial Marauders (0-5) at Larry Olexiuk Field.
The game was played in terrible conditions because of the fierce windstorm and bone-numbing temperatures.
After a scoreless first quarter, the Bulldogs tacked up 24 points before halftime and seven more in the third quarter while emptying the bench.
Memorial didn’t record a first down until the fourth quarter.
Zach Froese wired three touchdown passes for 14 on the season. Jakob Kikkert caught two TD strikes and Jordan Howe was also on the receiving end of a scoring play.
Kickert also ran in a 10-yarder in the third quarter. The game star was the team leader in receiving and rushing yards, special team tackles and even saw action at defensive end.
Marc Leblanc picked off a pass as the secondary didn’t give up a single reception.
The Bulldogs, last year’s division one semifinalists, are 37-2-1 in league and playoff action after losing the 2011 semifinal.
CDMFA games
The Capital District Minor Football Association regular season ends this weekend for St. Albert’s peewee and bantam teams.
Today in Fort Saskatchewan for St. Albert’s junior varsity teams in the Marv Mills division, the Colts (2-3) play the peewee Falcons (1-3) at 10 a.m. and the Fury (1-4) lines up against the bantam Falcons (3-0) at 12:30 p.m.
Sunday at Millwoods Artificial Turf Field for St. Albert’s senior varsity teams in the Susan Morgan division, the Riders (2-4) tackle the peewee Grizzlies (3-3) at 10 a.m. and the Palmer 49ers (5-1) battle the bantam Grizzlies (4-2) at 12:30 p.m.
The peewee and bantam semifinals in the CDMFA Tier I, II, III and IV divisions kick-off next weekend at Fuhr Sports Park.
The finals are Nov. 4 for the peewees at Fuhr Sports Park and the bantams at Larry Olexiuk Field.
The CDMFA Tier I and II champions also qualify for the provincial playdowns.
Atom games
The final opponents for St. Albert’s atom teams have been finalized for Sunday’s games at Foote Field.
Based on the regular season results, the Jaguars play the Millwoods Grizzlies in the Eskimo division at 1 p.m., the Buccaneers and Wetaskiwin Blues meet at 4 p.m. in the Golden Bear division and the Vikings and Beaumont Bears clash at 5:30 p.m. in the Wildcat division.
The Jaguars are 2-2-2 after the 35-28 loss to the Grizzlies last weekend.
Christopher Thompson not only scored his first touchdown of the season but added two more to pace the Jaguars. Darius Crandall produced the fourth TD.
Steele Doronski provided stiff resistance at linebacker, Bohe O’Donnell-Nyal added strong push-back on the defensive line and defensive back Dylan Jost had a strip at the goal line that kept things close early in the game.
The Bucs improved to 5-0-1 in the 28-7 victory over the Leduc Wildcats.
Kodyn Hansen registered three TDs and Theo Weirmeir played quarterback for a series and scored the fourth major.
Theo and his brother, Fletcher, flexed their muscles on the defensive line and if anyone managed to get past the Weirmeir twosome linebacker Lucas Massey and defensive back Cashton Mattar cleaned up the mess.
The Vikings are 2-4 following the 35-21 loss to the Camrose Buffaloes.
Down 21-0 after the first quarter, the Vikings rattled off TDs by Zach Garritty, Raydon Tutt and Cameron Foster to keep it close before Camrose tacked on two more TDs in the second half.
