Meanwhile, the Merchants (6-4-2) skate tonight against the North Edmonton Red Wings (2-9-2). Puck drop is 8 p.m. at Clareview Arena.

The next home game is Friday against the Spruce Grove Regals (8-4-1) at 8 p.m.

Last weekend the Merchants dropped a 4-3 overtime decision to the east division-leading Edmonton Royals (13-0) in St. Albert. Sean Ritchie beat netminder Curtis Ronaldson on the power play with 24 seconds remaining in the extra period. A cross-checking minor to Kyle Beddows with 51 seconds to play resulted in the Royals’ third goal of the game with the man advantage.

In the first period Nicolas Addessi struck on the power play to knot it at one apiece.

Down 3-1 the Merchants pulled even on Matt Bowles’ unassisted shorthanded effort in the second and his even-strength goal early in the third.

The Merchants are 0-3-1 in their last four games.

The Morinville Jets soared to their fifth straight win Sunday in the Capital Junior B Hockey League.

The top team in the west division improved to 10-2-1 after posting a 7-3 victory against the Icemen (8-5) in Wetaskiwin.

Tuesday the Jets hosted the Beverly Warriors (8-4-1) but the score was unavailable at press time.

The Jets also have a home game Sunday against the North Edmonton Red Wings (2-9-2). Start time is 6:45 p.m. at the Ray MacDonald Sports Centre.

After 12 games Dalen Paul led the league in goals with 15. Goaltender Mike Saunders (4-0) ranked second in goals-against with a 2.24 average.

Ashley Morin and Sabrina Flemming scored and Kaelin Klim stopped 19 shots as the St. Albert Slash blanked the Edmonton Thunder 2-0 Saturday at Castledowns Arena.

Eliza Snider and Rebecca Wall assisted on Morin’s power-play goal halfway through the first period.

Flemming’s insurance marker with 4:47 left in regulation time was set up by Jessica Dyck and Deanna Morin.

Thunder netminder Chloe Sanderson faced 23 shots.

In September the 2011 Esso Cup national silver medallists shut out the Slash 4-0.

The Slash (7-3-1) trail the first-place Thunder (8-2-1) by two points in the Alberta Major Midget Female Hockey League’s north division.

This weekend the Slash visit the Sherwood Park Fury (2-9-2) Friday at 7 p.m. at Millennium Place and the Lloydminster Steelers (5-6) Saturday at 3 p.m. in the Border City.

The St. Albert Sabres’ six-game undefeated streak in the Alberta Major Bantam Hockey League ended in Sunday’s 5-3 loss to the SSAC Southgate Lions at Millwoods Arena.

The Lions scored twice in the first and Ethan Lazaro and Matteo Gennaro replied for the Sabres in the second.

After Gennaro put the Sabres on top early in the third, the Lions roared back with three goals in less than five minutes before the 11:14 mark.

Sabres goalie Patrick Dea was credited with 47 saves.

In the nitro north division the Sabres (6-2-2) are three points back of the first-place Lions (8-1-1)

The Sabres are in action Saturday against the Canadian Athletic Club (7-1-2). Faceoff is 8 p.m. at Akinsdale Arena.
