The Sherwood Park Kings scored three consecutive goals in a span of less than six minutes in the third period to double the visiting St. Albert Sabres 4-2 in Thursday’s season opener in the Alberta Major Bantam Hockey League.
Bret Mossing and Lucas Palladino scored and Tyler Collins added two assists for the Sabres.
Shots were 39-24 for the Kings. Nate Reinhart was the Sabres goalie.
Sunday the Sabres make their home debut against the Maple Leafs at 3:45 p.m. at Akinsdale Arena.
The St. Albert Slash split their opening weekend in the Alberta Major Midget Female Hockey League.
The Slash lost 4-2 on the road against the Spruce Grove Saints and edged the Sherwood Park Fury 3-2 in St. Albert.
Morgan Loroff and Rachel Rochat scored against the Saints and netminder Sydney Williams stopped 30 shots.
Rochat, Jamie Jones and Kennedy Newton netted goals against the Fury and netminder Natalie Bender faced 25 shots.
Today the Slash visit the Lloydminster Steelers at 3:15 p.m. and Sunday they entertain the Edmonton Thunder, winners of five-consecutive AMMFHL titles. Game time is 6:30 p.m. at Northstar Hyundai Arena.
