The St. Albert Sabres carry a three-game undefeated streak into today’s contest against the Spruce Grove Saints in the Alberta Major Bantam Hockey League.
Faceoff is 3:45 p.m. at Akinsdale Arena.
The Sabres (5-13-6) are last in the nitro division, four points back of the fourth and last playoff spot. The Saints (8-10-4) are tied for second place in the charger division.
The Sabres are 2-1-2 in their last five games after beating the Fort Saskatchewan Rangers 6-2 Thursday in St. Albert.
Jaedon Leslie scored twice and added two assists and Zach Webb posted two goals and one assist against the Rangers (8-11-4).
Captain Joshua Mahura and Jake Warawa also connected. Ryan Cox chipped in with three assists and Dylan Huot had two helpers.
Sabres netminder Matt Murray (3-7-4, 3.45 GAA) stopped a game-high 37 shots.
Meanwhile, Cox will represent the Sabres at the 23rd annual AMBHL all-star game next Saturday in Red Deer. The St. Albert forward ranks second in team scoring with 23 points and is tied for the lead in goals with nine in 21 games.
Monday is the deadline to submit applications for the fifth annual John Reid Society Scholarship.
Individuals who played bantam AAA for the St. Albert Sabres after the 2004/05 season, and played hockey in St. Albert for a minimum of three years, are eligible to apply for the $1,000 scholarship.
Applicants have to be enrolled in a recognized post-secondary education institution.

The successful applicant will be announced Jan. 17 at the opening ceremonies of the John Reid Memorial Tournament.
Previous winners were Justin Kueber, Joshua Maeda, Steven Woolger and Brady McCorriston.
The Reid scholarship was established by the parent group of the 2004/05 Sabres.
Meanwhile, the 35th annual invitational tournament starts Jan. 17 at 8 a.m. and ends Jan. 20 with the final at 2 p.m. All the games except one will be played at Servus Credit Union Place.

The 1983 Territorial Leasing Sabres are the only St. Albert team to win the tournament.
Charity Price of the St. Albert Slash was named to the second all-star team at the ninth annual Mac’s midget AAA female tournament in Calgary.
Price scored three goals and added three assists in five games as the Slash finished 1-1-2 at the Mac’s.
The third-year Slash forward potted two goals in the tournament opener, including the tying marker with 5:24 to play in the 3-3 draw with the Saskatoon Stars. She also notched three goals in the team’s last game, a 5-5 tie with the Highwood Raiders. Her third assist of the game set up Kate Lumley’s game-tying goal with 26 seconds remaining.
This season Price has five goals and nine assists in 23 games for the Slash (11-9-3) in the Alberta Major Midget Female Hockey League.
Last season Price registered nine goals and four assists in 30 games after collecting seven goals and five assists in 32 games in 2010/11.
