The St. Albert Raiders close out their preseason schedule this week at Akinsdale Arena in the Alberta Midget AAA Hockey League.
Tonight at 7:45 p.m. the Raiders host the Southside Athletic Club and Sunday they skate against the Leduc Oil Kings at 3:45 p.m.
The 2012 provincial finalists are 2-0-2 in exhibition action.
The first league game is Sept. 29 against the Sherwood Park Kings at 1:15 p.m. at Akinsdale.
The puck drops Friday night for the St. Albert Merchants and Morinville Jets in the Capital Junior B Hockey League.
The Merchants play the defending champion Spruce Grove Regals at 7:30 p.m. at Grant Fuhr Arena and the Jets visit the Stony Plain Flyers at 8 p.m. at the Glenn Hall Centennial Arena.
Sunday’s home openers start at 6:45 p.m. for the Jets against the Regals at the Ray McDonald Sports Centre and 8 p.m. for the Merchants against the Flyers at Akinsdale Arena.
The St. Albert Slash returned home from last weekend’s road trip with two wins in the Alberta Major Midget Female Hockey League.
The Slash opened the season with a 7-5 victory against the Red Deer Chiefs. Ashley Morin and Kate Lumley scored twice and Deanna Morin, Morgan Loroff and Kennedy Newton notched singles. Kaelin Klim stopped 26 Red Deer shots.
Newton potted two goals and Lumley scored the game winner in the third period as the Slash edged the Calgary Flyers 3-2. Andrea Dombowsky turned aside 34 Calgary shots.
This weekend the Slash host the Grande Prairie Storm at 6:15 p.m. Saturday at Northstar Hyundai Arena and Sunday they visit the Lloydminster Steelers at 3 p.m.
Meanwhile, forwards Ashley and Deanna Morin and Karly Heffernan, Slash alumni, made the Team Alberta roster for the U18 national championship in November in Dawson Creek, B.C.
