The last game before the John Reid Memorial Tournament for the St. Albert Gregg Distributors Sabres is Sunday at Akinsdale Arena.
Faceoff is 5 p.m. between the Sabres, the No. 1 team in the Alberta Major Bantam Hockey League, and CAC Inland Cement (7-14-4).
The eighth win in a row for the Sabres (26-1-1, 170 GF/51 GA) was Thursday’s 5-2 decision against the Camrose Red Wings (16-6-5) in St. Albert.
Ryley Morgan, Austin Spiridakis, Marc Lajoie, Ethan Edwards and Zack Ostapchuk lit the lamp as the Sabres capitalized three times on the power play.
Ethan Barwick (12-1, 1.69 GAA) stopped 25 shots.
The Sabres were coming off Tuesday’s 3-2 victory over the KC Squires (11-7-7) at Castledowns Arena. Spiridakis sniped three goals and Kyle Nelson (14-0-1, 1.95 GAA) faced 25 shots.
The Sabres are one of five AMBHL teams competing in the 39th annual St. Albert bantam AAA tournament and the others are the Lethbridge Golden Hawks (21-4-3), Red Deer Rebels (19-4-6), Fort Saskatchewan Rangers (21-4-1) and Calgary Bisons (17-8-3).
The 16-team tournament starts Thursday at Servus Credit Union Place and the Sabres are in action at 10:45 a.m. against the Okanagan Hockey Academy of Edmonton and 8 p.m. against the Colorado T-Birds.
Friday the Sabres play the Yale Hockey Academy of Abbotsford, last year’s champion, at 2:30 p.m.

The first-place St. Albert Flyers continued their winning ways Tuesday in the Alberta Minor Midget AA Hockey League.
Cam Aucoin struck twice and Kye Buchanan and Tyler Pitre notched singles for the Flyers (22-0-1) in the 4-1 victory over CAC (11-9-3) at Akinsdale Arena.
Kyle Lawrence and Brett Bamber had two helpers apiece.
Shots were 44-25 for the Flyers and Ryley Osland (12-0-1, 1.46 GAA) was in net.
The next game is against the host Sherwood Park Squires today at 3:45 p.m.
The Squires (17-4-3) are ranked second behind the Flyers in the north standings.
The Flyers were winners of 21 consecutive games before the Squires rallied to tie the Flyers 2-2 Dec. 20 in St. Albert The Squires potted the equalizer with 26 seconds to play.
The 13th straight win for the bantam elite St. Albert Raiders was recorded Wednesday in the Alberta Female Hockey League.
Elleson Rezewski, Robyn Short, Bronwyn Boucher and Kate-lyn Charko scored and Mikayla Sarapuk added two assists in the 4-1 decision against the Edmonton Pandas at Bill Hunter Arena.
The Raiders outshot the Pandas 24-23 and Holly Borrett was the winning goalie.
Three nights earlier, the Raiders edged the Pandas 2-1 in St. Albert.
The Pandas (6-8-2) are the last team to beat the Raiders, 2-1 Nov. 2 in St. Albert.
The Raiders (15-2) winning streak includes six shutouts.
League play continues Jan. 21 against the North Central Impact (8-9) at 5:45 p.m. in Leduc.
