St. Albert referee Lacey Senuk has been assigned by the International Ice Hockey Federation to work the World Women’s Championship, division II group B, April 4 to 10 in Asiago, Italy.

Senuk is one of 20 Canadian officials – 12 referees and five linesmen – to earn assignments at 10 IIHF events during the 2015/16 season. They are products of the Hockey Canada Officiating Program.

Senuk is among four referees and seven linesmen picked for the competition in Asiago and is the only Canadian official.

The tournament consists of Latvia, Netherlands, China, Hungary, Italy and Kazakhstan.

Senuk, a Level V official, also refereed at the 2015 women’s U18 worlds and the 2014 women’s world championship division II group B qualification in Mexico and served as a linesman at the 2012 Olympic pre-qualification event in China, a women’s group E tournament.

The graduate of the Referee Advanced Technical Training program through the St. Albert Referees Association started officiating in 2008/09 and her resume includes the 4 Nations Cup, the U22 and U18 series between Canada and the United States, Canada Winter Games’ U18 female tournament, Esso Cup national midget AAA female championships and the female Canada West and CIS nationals.

The next Capital Junior B Hockey League game for the St. Albert Merchants is Sunday at Akinsdale Arena.

Puck drop is 8 p.m. against the Stony Plain Flyers (6-9-1) at Akinsdale Arena.

The Merchants (8-6-2) were 3-5 on home ice before hosting the Stony Plain Regals (1-12-1) Friday. The score was unavailable at press time.

The second win in four games for the Merchants was Wednesday’s 3-1 decision against the North Edmonton Red Wings (10-5-1) at Londonderry Arena.

Ty Clelland (7-6, 3.45 GAA) stopped a game-high 38 shots against his former team.

The Merchants registered 17 shots on net as Matt Havens and Cam Mazur scored in the second period and Casey Reid notched the insurance marker with 11:19 to play.

Havens deposited his team-leading 11th goal and 26th point in 12 games with 8:52 left in the second and Mazur stuck on the power play with 1:35 remaining in the period.

The Red Wings replied at 1:50 of the third with the man advantage while outshooting the Merchants 14-2 in the last period.

Mazur and Reid also picked up assists against the 2015 Founders Cup and provincial champions and Keystone Cup western silver medallists.

The Merchants are in Sherwood Park Tuesday to play the Knights (10-6) at 8:30 p.m.

The Merchants battle the rival Morinville Jets (6-10) Nov. 21 at 6 p.m. at Ray McDonald Sports Centre.

The St. Albert Female Raiders face-off against the Red Deer Chiefs in the Alberta Major Bantam Female Hockey League Sunday.

Game time is 1:30 p.m. at Go Auto Arena.

The Raiders were 4-2-3 for third place in the north division before Thursday’s contest against the first-place Royals (8-2-1) in Sherwood Park. The score was unavailable at press time.

Red Deer (7-3-1) was ranked second in the south division.

Last weekend on the road, the Raiders edged the Calgary Rangers 3-2 and lost 3-1 to the Rocky Mountain Raiders.

Isabelle Lajoie sniped the winner with 3:28 to play against the Rangers (5-3-2). Makenna Schuttler also tallied and assisted on goals by Andrea Gauchier and Lajoie.

The Raiders were outshot 37-30 and Elle Boyko was in net.

Gauchier scored against Rocky (8-1-2), the south division leader. Natasha Borrett faced a game-high 27 shots.

The St. Albert Sabres and the Canadian Athletic Club square-off in the Alberta Major Bantam Hockey League Tuesday.

Faceoff is 7 p.m. at Akinsdale Arena.

In the nitro north division, the second-place Sabres (10-2-3) are 4-0-1 in their last five games, including a 9-0 shutout of the Canadians (4-6-1) last weekend.

The Sabres are coming off a 3-2 win over the Maple Leafs (0-12) Tuesday at Castledowns Arena.

Dominik Cesarz potted a pair for 10 goals on the season and Blake Sydlowski scored his team-high 11th goal.

Shots were 36-16 for the Sabres and Evan Fradette (6-0-2, 1.78 GAA) was between the pipes.
