The provincial finalists open the best-of-five league championship series Thursday against the Strathcona Warriors. Faceoff is 8:45 p.m. at Akinsdale Arena. Miller leads the Crusaders in playoff scoring with nine goals and 12 points in nine games.

The next two games are Saturday at SOC/Fultonvale and Sunday at Go Auto Arena. Faceoff times are 7:30 p.m.

If needed, game four is 6:45 p.m. Tuesday at SOC/Fultonvale and game five is 7:30 p.m. Wednesday at Go Auto Arena.

The Metro conference Crusaders are 6-2-1 and the Rural conference Warriors are 5-2-1 in the playoffs.

The Crusaders (19-11-2, 116 GF/89 GA) and Warriors (18-10-4, 117 GF/87 GA) also finished second in their respective divisions.

Both teams competed at provincials and in round-robin play the Crusaders edged the Warriors 2-1 last week in Okotoks.

Seth Summers and David Cloutier scored and Shane Zilka faced 15 shots as the Warriors found the back of the net with 66 seconds remaining.

The Crusaders (2-2-1) placed second overall at provincials and the Warriors (1-3) were last in the five-team tournament.

Sunday's final was 8-4 for the Wheatland Chiefs (3-1-1) against the Crusaders.

The South Central Alberta Hockey League team tallied four times before the 14-minute mark of the opening frame and the fourth goal was scored on the power play.

Zach Giacobbo put the Crusaders on the board at 17:02 with the man advantage and Wheatland replied 39 seconds later with Kale Clouston's third goal of the period.

Clouston's fourth of the game 28 seconds in the middle period made it 6-1.

Goals by Kiegan Miller (power play) and Ethan Kreiser left the Crusaders trailing by three early in the third.

Wheatland responded with a pair, including a power-play tally, before Noah Fayad of the Crusaders closed out the scoring.

Seth Summers also picked up two assists.

Shots were 31-24 for the Crusaders as Zilka (six GA on 11 shots) and Parker Waseylenko (two GA on 13 shots) shared net duties.

In the round robin, the teams battled to scoreless draw.

The Crusaders were outshot 36-24 as Waseylenko posted the shutout.

Brett Miller led the Crusaders in scoring at provincials with four points and Kiegan Miller and Brandon Pelletier posted two goals apiece.

The St. Albert Comets are in Fort McMurray this weekend to play the hometown Barons in the Edmonton Rural Bantam AA Hockey League final.

The best-of-three series starts 7 p.m. Friday and game two is 11:45 a.m. Saturday.

Game three, if needed, is 11:45 a.m. Sunday.

The Metro conference Comets are 6-2 and the Rural conference Barons are 5-1-1 in the playoffs

The Comets (20-6-6, 142 GF/83 GA) and Barons (23-8-1, 186 GF/98 GA) also finished first in their respective divisions.

Both teams qualified for provincials last week in Olds and the Barons registered wins of 3-1 in the tournament opener and 7-4 in the third-place game.

The Barons tallied three times before Hudson Ketsa scored late in the first game on the power play.

Shots were 35-28 for the Comets and Matt Clement was in net.

In the rematch, the Barons posted period leads of 1-0 and 4-3 and in the third led 6-3 when Adam Olsen connected with 12:01 remaining.

In the second, Olsen knotted it at one on the power play and Holden Selin and Brett Reiter also scored.

Dylan Leslie ended the game with two assists.

The Comets were outshot 37-35 and Carson Ironside was between the pipes.

The Comets wrapped up provincials with a record of 1-4 and the Barons were 2-2-1.

Olsen was the team's top scorer with six goals and 10 points.

Leslie produced eight points and tied Reiter for second on the Comets in goals with three apiece.

The St. Albert Blades were a cut above the rest at the bantam A female provincials last month in Edmonton.

Annika Neset's goal at 13:18 of the third period was the championship winner in the 2-1 decision against the Calgary White Hawks at Castledowns Arena.

Aleena Taylor put the Blades on the board in the first period and Calgary tied it in the second.

Shots were 21-20 for Calgary and in net for the Blades was Layla Hood.

The Blades finished 4-0-2 at provincials and Calgary was 4-1-1.

Taylor's two goals during a 53-shot barrage by the Blades powered the team past Sherwood Park 4-1 in the semifinals.

Results for the Blades in five-team round robin were 0-0 against Okotoks, 3-1 against Edmonton Warriors, 4-1 against Sherwood Park and 2-2 against Calgary.

Chiara Knowlton stopped 18 shots for the shutout against Okotoks and Hood faced 15 shots by Calgary in the last round-robin game.

Juliann Sherbeth and Taylor led the team in scoring with four goals and five points apiece.

Meagan Edworthy chipped in with four assists and Sophie McKinley and Neset potted two goals apiece.
