At the Mac’s tournament in Calgary the Slash finished pool play at 2-0-2 after Monday’s 1-1 draw against the Swift Current Wildcats. Lalor was the team’s top scorer in the round robin with five points.

The St. Albert Slash ended the round robin at the Mac’s tournament with two wins and two ties after Monday’s 1-1 draw against the Swift Current Wildcats in Calgary.

Ella Fedoruk sniped the game-tying goal with 15:12 to play and Erynn Shantz recorded 14 saves against the Wildcats (1-0-2).

Pool play wrapped up Tuesday and depending on the final standings the Slash had a good shot at the semifinals today as the top team in their pool or as a wild card in the 15-team tournament.

The final is Thursday at noon at the Saddledome.

The Slash won the Mac’s Cup in 2009 and two years ago finished 1-1-2.

The Slash kicked off the Mac’s on Friday with a 1-0 decision against the Northern Cougars (1-2) of Prince George, B.C. Jamie Jones scored and Shantz stopped 24 shots for the shutout.

The second goal of Saturday’s game by Megan Lalor in the middle frame, a power-play tally with 33 seconds left in the period, was the equalizer in the 2-2 tie against the Westman (Man.) Wildcats (1-0-2). Kyrelle Skoye assisted on both goals and Shantz faced a game-high 30 shots.

The Slash knocked off the Peace Country Storm (0-3) of Grande Prairie 6-1 on Sunday.

In the Alberta Major Midget Female Hockey League, the Slash (14-7-5) are third and the Storm (11-11-4) are sixth in the 10-team standings.

Kennedy Newton potted a pair and Lalor had two helpers. Brandy Steinman, a bantam AAA affiliate from the lady Raiders, captain Jenna Jewell, Kennedy Davidson and Jones also scored and Natalie Bender posted 18 saves.

The St. Albert Gregg Distributors Sabres are back on the ice Friday in the Alberta Major Bantam Hockey League.

Game time is 8:15 p.m. against the KC Squires (2-18-2) at Callingwood Arena.

The Sabres travel to play the Lloydminster Heat (10-11-1) at 11:30 a.m. Sunday.

The next home game is Monday versus the Leduc Oil Kings (17-4-1) at 6:45 p.m. at Akinsdale Arena.

The Sabres (11-8-4) are ranked third in the nitro north division and trail the second-place SSAC Southgate Lions (15-7-1) by five points.

The last game before the Christmas break was the 5-0 loss to the first-place Sherwood Park Flyers (18-3-3).

The Sabres’ record in December was 1-2-1 after going 5-2-1 in November.

The Sabres are also gearing up for the Jan. 15 to 18 John Reid Memorial Tournament

The 37th annual St. Albert bantam AAA tournament features 16 teams from across western North America.

The Sabres are in the same pool as the Winnipeg Warriors, Colorado Thunderbirds and the defending champion Okanagan Hockey Academy.

Grace Borle and Sophie Lalor will represent the St. Albert Lady Raiders in the inaugural Alberta Major Bantam Female Hockey League all-star game Sunday at Sherwood Park Arena.

Puck drop is 11:15 a.m. between the north and south all-stars.

This is the sixth year for the AMBFHL, an elite AAA level of hockey for 13- and 14-year-old females.

Borle is a defenceman and Lalor is a forward who leads the team in goals with 13 and is second in points with 18 in 15 games.

Brandy Steinman is the top scorer with 20 points.

At the Christmas break the Raiders (7-7-1) were the sixth and last-place team in the north standings.

The next game is Jan. 11 versus the north division-leading Edmonton Lightning (10-3-4) at 5 p.m. at Stu Barnes Arena in Spruce Grove.

The recent Edmonton Rural bantam AA all-star game in Lloydminster featured representation from St. Albert’s three league teams.

Brett Bamber, David Cloutier and goalie Shane Zilka of the Bears and Dominic Cesarz and Matthew Kachmar of the Blues joined the Blues’ coaching staff of Andrew Pirzek, Gordon Yake and Tyler Pennington on the Red/White Team.

The Blue/Black Team included Adam Wilkins of the Comets.

Wilkins and Bamber picked up one assist each in the 7-4 win by the Blue/Black Team.

In league play, the Bears (16-2-1) and Blues (14-3-2) are first and second, respectively, in the metro red division and the Comets (11-5-4) are third in the metro blue division.

The league consists of 32 teams in five divisions.
