The Morinville Jets skate into Friday’s junior B game undefeated in five games as the third-place team in the west standings.
Faceoff is 8 p.m. between the Jets (14-5-1) and the North Edmonton Red Wings (14-5-2) at Londonderry Arena.
The Jets are one point back of the Red Wings and five behind the first-place St. Albert Merchants (17-5) in the west with games in hand.
The fifth consecutive win for the Jets was Saturday’s 7-1 throttling of the Stony Plain Flyers (13-9) at Ray McDonald Sports Centre. It was 6-0 after 40 minutes.
Dylan Stang, Branden Domoslai, Craig Hills, Tyler Hagel, Riley Van Brabant, Boe Geslinger and Lee Gadoury scored and Brett Kampjes chipped in with three assists.
Hagel’s goal was his team-leading 21st. He ranks second in the Capital league in goals and is eighth in points with 33 in 20 games.
Shots were 45-22 for the Jets and Mike Brown (9-4, 3.42 GAA) was in net.
Sunday the Jets entertain the Beverly Warriors (10-5-4) at 6:45 p.m. in Morinville.
The Westlock Warriors toppled the streaking Morinville Kings in Saturday’s showdown in the North Central Hockey League at Ray McDonald Sports Centre.
The first-place Kings (8-2) were undefeated in six games before falling to Westlock 4-3.
Evan Kuhar’s second goal of the game and ninth of the season made it 4-1 for the Warriors with 13:27 to play.
Joshua Lafleche tied it at one in the middle frame and Dalen Paul and Brayden Arcand tallied in the third. Arcand’s goal left the Kings trailing by one with 4:10 remaining.
The Kings outshot the Warriors 27-24. Chris Sharkey (4-1, 4.20 GAA) was tagged with the loss.
In the senior AA circuit, the second-place Warriors (7-1) are one point behind the Kings with two games in hand.
Kuhar and Shane O’Neill of the Kings share top spot in the NCHL scoring race with 15 points apiece.
Sunday’s game against the last-place Rocky Mountain House Rams (1-7) in Morinville was cancelled because of poor driving conditions and will be rescheduled.
Friday, the Kings visit two-time defending NCHL champion Devon Barons (6-3) but the start time had not been confirmed by press time.
Sunday, the 2014 Hockey Alberta senior A champions travel to Slave Lake to play the Winterhawks (2-6) at 2 p.m.
The St. Albert Gregg Distributors Sabres returned to their winning ways in the Alberta Major Bantam Hockey League after losing twice in three days on home ice.
Sunday’s 5-1 victory over the SSAC Southgate Lions at Millwoods Arena propelled the Sabres (10-6-3) past the Lions (11-5) into second place in the nitro north division.

Last week at Akinsdale Arena, the Sabres suffered identical 3-2 losses to the Spruce Grove PAC Saints (10-7-2) of the charger north division and the Sherwood Park Flyers (14-2-3), the top nitro north team, after going undefeated in seven games with six wins and one tie.
The next game is Dec. 11 against the Camrose Red Wings (5-9-1) at 7 p.m. in St. Albert.
