St. Albert is one of 24 communities across all 10 provinces and one territory the Rogers Hometown Hockey Tour will visit this season.
The March 5-6 stop in St. Albert will feature NHL alumni, hometown heroes, local entertainment and hockey stories delivered by host Ron MacLean, who anchors the Sportsnet Mobil Studio every Sunday.
Each stop is highlighted by a weekend of free outdoor festivities celebrating all things hockey in each community. This season marks the return of fan favourite activations as the Sportsnet Be a Broadcaster, Scotiabank Community Locker Room and Dodge Stow ‘n’ Go Challenge, as well as the new GamePlus experiences, a look behind the scenes of the Rogers Hometown Hockey Tour that brings fans closer to the stars of the game.
On Sunday, March 6, the Edmonton Oilers are in Winnipeg to play the Jets at 5 p.m. on Sportsnet.
The NAIT Blue/Gold exhibition tournament is underway for the midget AAA female St. Albert Slash at NAIT Arena.
The Slash plays the Calgary Fire today at 8 a.m. and Sunday’s game against the Peace Country Storm starts at 11:15 a.m.
Friday’s score against the Red Deer Chiefs, the 2015 Esso Cup silver medallists as the host team, was unavailable at press time.
The preseason continues Friday against the Edmonton Thunder, the seven-time defending Alberta Major Midget Female Hockey League champions. Faceoff is 8 p.m. at Go Auto Arena.
Last season, the Slash finished tied for fifth at 15-12-5 in the 10-team standings and lost the best-of-five opening playoff round in three games to the fourth-place Sherwood Park Fury (17-12-3).
The St. Albert Sabres and Fort Saskatchewan Rangers play a home and away exhibition series this weekend in the Alberta Major Bantam Hockey League.
Game times are 2:30 p.m. today at Mark Messier Arena and 4 p.m. Sunday at JRC Arena.
Next week, the Sabres are competing in the John Ferguson Memorial Tournament at Terwillegar Community Rec Centre.
The season opener is Sept. 22 against the SSAC Southgate Lions at 7 p.m. at Akinsdale Arena.
Last season, the Sabres (16-12-5) lost the opening playoff series to SSAC (20-10-3) for the second year in a row after finishing six points behind the second-place Lions.
The first of four exhibitions in six days for the midget AAA St. Albert Raiders is Monday’s game against the KC Pats.
Puck drop is 6:15 p.m. at Bill Hunter Arena.
The Raiders also skate Wednesday against the Sherwood Park Kings at 7:30 p.m. and Friday against the Maple Leafs at 5:15 p.m. at Bill Hunter Arena.
Saturday’s faceoff is 6:30 p.m. against the Grande Prairie Storm at Callingwood Recreation Centre.
The Raiders close out the preseason with three exhibitions at Akinsdale Arena.
League play starts Sept. 3 against the Southside Athletic Club at Bill Hunter Arena and the home opener is Sept. 4 against the Canadian Athletic Club.

The Capital Junior B Hockey League swings into action next weekend for the St. Albert Merchants.
The Money Men travel to Fort Saskatchewan Friday to play the Hawks at JRC Arena and Sunday they host the Beverly Warriors at Akinsdale Arena. Game times are 8 p.m.
The Merchants are 66-9-1 in league play the last two seasons as back-to-back Challenge Cup pennant winners and 79-20-1 overall during that span.
